Lunette Marie plans a daring slide along an inclined cable stretched across the Charles River at Norumbega Park Auburndale. The stunt hinges on adhering to conditions set by John Gilman superintendent of the Metropolitan Park system area near the park.
Saturday marks the first attempt of Mile Lynette on a new park slide. Authorities require a new lining on the trolley brake for each trip a rope over the cable, a waterman boat on standby, two Weston shore watchers, and restrictions on boats under the cable to ensure safe descent.
Joseph C. Reilly of Lowell announces his Democratic bid for District Attorney to succeed Endicott Peabody Saltonstall. A Dartmouth and Harvard Law School graduate, Reilly has broad Republican support, a large Lowell practice, and strong Middlesex bar backing.
New Bedford court session hears the case of Joao Dos Santos a nearly blind Portuguese man from 147 Dartmouth Street. Plea of guilty for making hooch led to two months in jail but U S attorney Elihu Stone recommended a nominal fine. Judge Mack revoked imprisonment and imposed a one dollar fine, leaving Santos relieved and returning to his family.
Edward Cincott of Everett was a star witness before United States Commissioner Hayes. He neither affirmed nor denied ownership of the Florence Street house where a 100-gallon still and much alcohol were found, and he was discharged for lack of proof of ownership. He promised to aid agents in finding the person who ran the still through counsel.
Prohibition agents seized 72 quarts of old Louis Hunter rye from a gunny sack carried by four men leaving Pier 41. A U.S. customs guard at the Warren Line in Charlestown questioned them, they fled, and the sack spilled its contents for inspectors. Federal Supervisor James B. Roberts took the liquor into safekeeping.
