Fighting Ninth recall recalls Civil War brave veterans reunion
Twenty four survivors of the Ninth Regiment known as the Fighting Ninth gathered at Nantasket Beach for their 40th annual reunion. Major George W. Dutton of Stoughton led the gathering with officers elected and a clambake at Nantasket Point Hotel. The group remembered Gaines Mills and the Seven Days battles, noting about 700 Ninth soldiers died in the Civil War.
