Buzzell brothers arraigned in Paris Green smuggling case

In Portland Maine on April 29, John Buzzell and his brother Leslie Buzzell of Presque Isle were arraigned in U S District Court for smuggling a package of 100 pounds Paris Green. John was found guilty and will be sentenced tomorrow. Leslie's case was continued.

Women Seek Higher Pay for Boston Teachers

Petitioning Boston School Committee, about 1500 women teachers across grades urge substantial pay raises. Current salaries start at 456 dollars, rise to over 700, with calls to end pay grading, create uniform salaries for assistants, and grant retirement and promotion paths. Injuries Reported After Accidents at Work and Home

Michael Shine, 40, of 62 Sedgwick Street, a West End street railway laborer, fell from a pile of rails at work yesterday, breaking his collar bone and was treated at the Emergency. Arthur Barnes, 19, of 440 Fourth Street, South Boston, a clerk at Atkinson Furnishing Company, was struck on the head by a falling sideboard from hoisting ropes and taken to the Emergency with a badly lacerated scalp and minor cuts and bruises.

Those Dangerous Schools Sanitary Funds Debated

At the Common Council meeting the finance committee will recommend an appropriation of 300,009 dollars to improve sanitary conditions in public schools. TheMayor used personal influence to move the measure forward. the sum is seen as a starting amount.
