Sentenced in Pretoria Leaders of Reform Union Face Death

The Pretoria trial of John Hays Hammond and leaders of the Johannesburg Reform Union ended with five leaders sentenced to death for treason. Four Americans, including Captain Mein and Victor B. Clement, plus J. S. Curtis and Lawley, were fined 10000 dollars, jailed two years, and banished three years. Curtis’s case was noted as postponed.
