Three U S Naval Fliers Named to Lead Atlantic Flight

The Navy Department announced five crew members for three hydro air planes NC-1 NC-3 and NC-4 set to attempt an Atlantic crossing next month. Commanders J H Towers A C Read and P N L Bellinger will be the plane commanders with Towers in general charge of the expedition. The airships will fly from Rockaway Point Long Island to begin the voyage.

Revised Labor Clauses and German Envoys at Versailles

At the peace conference in Paris the Council of Four presented a treaty provision to prosecute former Emperor William by a five judge court for a supreme offence against morality and treaty sanctity. The League Covenant, revised and moved by Wilson, was adopted by the plenary session without a dissent.

Government to Return Cable Lines to Private Ownership

Washington dispatch reports Congress will act to relinquish government control of American cable lines by May 10 and restore telegraph and telephone systems to private ownership immediately after enactment. John Lester Allen of Dorchester drowned when a seaplane engine failed high above the Charles River. Winthrop E. Nightengale, a former naval aviation instructor, escaped with slight injuries as the craft plunged into the river during the incident yesterday afternoon.

Gompers Not Expected To Make Quick Recovery

Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, was injured when a Broadway surface car collided with a taxicab in which he rode. A physician bulletin said he rested well and his condition was favorable but his two fractured ribs and other injuries may prove serious due to his age of 69.
