In Constantinople on April 26 the push to dethrone Sultan Abdul Hamid gains momentum as a Senate Deputies caucus seeks to force abdication under Islamic law. The Sheik al Islam could issue a decree declaring the monarch incapable of ruling.
The plan calls for demanding the Sultan’s abdication from the church court the national assembly and military chiefs. Abdul Hamid is offered a palace and allowances while the Sheik-Ul-Islam’s stance shapes the decision. General Schefket’s forces pressed the Yildiz siege ending in surrender with widespread arrests and a shifting political landscape.
Dr. William Thomas Councilman of Harvard Medical School dominated the East Cambridge courtroom as Chester S. Jordan faced cross examination by his defense after the government rested. Councilman provided essential technical background amid a barrage of direct and hypothetical questions aimed at discrediting medical witnesses for the Commonwealth. General Charles W. Bartlett and Attorney Harvey H. Pratt sat nearby as Magrath acknowledged his education came in part from Councilman.

Helen Ferguson, nine, was attacked by a large St Bernard in a city school yard on Main Street. She was dragged and torn in several places and taken home in condition described as probably fatal.
Shortly before 7 pm Helen Ferguson accompanied by four or five girls played in a Main street schoolyard when a large St Bernard lunged at her biting her face arms and legs. Boys drove the dog away and the girl was taken home with critical wounds. Police searched but the dog remains at large.
Miss Anne Morgan daughter of J Pierpont Morgan and Mrs Fr H Cabot stayed in Boston with lodgings at the Touraine. She is known for sociological work and planned a Charlestown sailors and longshoremen visit but due to fatigue remained at the Hollis after the theatre. The party booked a morning train compartment for New York.
Washington April 26. A new bill by Representative Dwight of New York would grant the United States a complete railroad train for the exclusive use of the President. The set would include a baggage car a sleeping car and a private car.
At a special meeting the Boston Consolidated Gas Company voted to sell its electric business to the Edison Company for 1 300 000 dollars subject to directors approval next Wednesday The Edison deal gives Edison a monopoly of electric service in Boston and Brookline with the gas company’s notes and debts substantially extinguished by the cash proceeds The electric property valuation on June 30 1908 stood at 892711 with goodwill and business valued around 400000
Miss Ida Steinert a Boston trained nurse is in critical condition at the Emergency Hospital after an attempted suicide Saturday night in the branch office of Dr H S Shierson where she was employed. She had been discharged by Dr Shierson who is a Boston physician. After he left the office she took morphine.
Quincy mayor Shea ousted J. Winthrop Pratt from the Board of Assessors at noon. Pratt was notified at 12 20 p m and Alexander Falconer of Ward 3 was appointed to replace him.

Dr Powers, Athletics catcher, dies in Philadelphia. Langford favored to win 19 rounds with Ferguson in Los Angeles Armory bout. Other scores include Detroit 4 Cleveland 2 Philadelphia 2 Washington 1 Chicago 1 St Louis 4 Chicago 6 Cincinnati 2 Philadelphia 6 Brooklyn 4 Pittsburg 4 St Louis.
Texas Senator Bailey urges a straight 8 percent tax on all incomes of 5000 dollars and up. Iowa Senator Cummins backs a graduated scheme with 1 percent on 2000 to 5000, 2 percent on 5000 to 10000, 3 percent on 10000 to 20000, and 4 percent on over 50000, with Taft and 22 insurgent Republicans backing. Democrats reportedly united with possible exceptions, while Bailey’s bill may fail and Cummins’ plan could gain support.

ADELE BOAS says she planned to run away to earn her own living and save $5000 for her father. She told stories to avoid detection, seeking independence and to spare him the expense.
Adele Boas, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Boas, arrived in New York from Boston and was escorted home by two police officers who recognized her on a Stamford train. She said she left to seek independence and a living, and amused herself by fooling pursuing officers.
Adele Boas fled her family on a Friday, working in Boston as a waitress before being discharged for cutting her finger. She rode to New York on the o'clock train with money saved to see her parents, using a German accent and false stories to avoid detection until a Stamford reporter identified her.
Charles Waters eight year old New York native, formerly of Boston, died after refusing food for over a week at Emergency Hospital Seattle. He had been removed from G W Dunlap offices in the Haller building on Saturday when his severe weakness was found.
The dying man, aged 79, of East Somerville, Mass, left all he possessed to his only living relative, sister Elizabeth A. Waters. Born at Fort Hill Boston and a Boylston School graduate, he built the Charles & William A. Waters grocery firm on State Street before his fortune dwindled.
Miss Waters tells a reporter she has not seen her brother in 26 years and arranged for his body to be brought to Fast Somerville for burial. She recalls he left for Seattle 40 years ago where he built profitable real estate holdings, then died of starvation. she notes her charitable work as founder of the Somerville Day Street Nursery.
