Wesley Gordon of Randolph assaulted his wife Mrs. Gordon at her home and fled when police tried to arrest him. He jumped into the river but was rescued by citizens and later bound over for the grand jury at Augusta jail. Mrs. Gordon not fatally hurt.
In Havana area dispatches report twenty U S Cavalry deaths from typhoid at Puerto Principe with 108 total cases. Despite strict camp sanitation and filtering water, fever rose then eased. The Fifteenth Infantry on a adjacent slope has no cases. At Pinar Del Rio 193 of 1100 are ill with 59 malaria cases. Cuban forces drill nearby as mystery persists.

Jeweler A Aaronson of 872 Washington Street reported a swindle in which a tray holding 27 solitaire diamond rings worth about 1000 dollars vanished yesterday afternoon. Los Angeles April 24. A tenderfoot named C. M. Jay found gold two miles from Randsberg on a barren wash covered ground. He scratched the dirt and uncovered a six inch vein earning ten tons of ore valued at about $100 per ton.
Mrs Hetty Green leases the Pell cottage in Newport for the season citing convenience to New York and New Bedford where she has lawsuits pending.
John Rooney was shot and killed near Bedford after allegedly terrorizing Mrs. Loring and her children. Mrs. Charles Loring, who detained in the village lockup, fired believing Rooney was a robber and a threat, despite his intoxicated state. Rooney had been on a two to three day spree and was found by a barbed wire fence. Mr. Loring was away in New York when the shooting occurred.
