Lincoln wharf power plant adds 4000 HP generator
A new 4000 horsepower generator is being installed at Lincoln wharf to augment the Elevated railway's power needs. Along with two existing Lincoln machines and the central station unit, it forms the country’s largest direct current generating set. The 300,000 pound machine drives a vertical cross compound condensing engine, with a 28 foot flywheel and four water tube boilers for superheated steam. Coal is delivered by overhead stokers and a bucket chain, with ash removed by conveyors to scows, eliminating manual handling in the station.
