The New York Giants beat the Boston team 6 to 3 at the Polo Grounds. Mathewson pitched well overall but was erratic in the sixth inning when Boston scored their only runs. Hale keyed New York’s hitting while Boston’s bats were less productive.
Chicago wins a tight opener at home with timely second inning hits and a pair of misplays by St Louis in the eighth. Attendance about 6000. Pitchers Taylor and Yerkes fanned five and four respectively. six walks issued.
Pitcher Donovan cratered for Brooklyn with four walks and four hits in the first inning. A wild throw and another miscue by McCreery produced four Philadelphia runs, delivering the setback for Brooklyn in an early rout.

Members approve plans for a large expansion at the Boston Athletic Club on Exeter and Blagden streets. The project adds several new facilities across multiple floors including a library, billiard room, expanded dining space, private rooms, sleeping quarters, and tennis and squash courts, with land acquisitions on Blagden streets to support the build.
Harvard announced its varsity crew candidates met at the Newell Boat Club for their first workout on the Charles River. Bobby Walthour Nat Butler and L E Mettling were slated for a 23 mile pace race on May 8. Moran of Chelsea challenged Butler for the brassard worth four dollars a day. Champion rode under 1:30 recently, clocking 1:27, as pacing gear improvements continue for a stronger upcoming race.
Dick Cavill, from the Australian lifesaver family, set three world marks at a Wanganui meet in New Zealand. He is greatly improved but not fully recovered and plans to visit Yale on April 29 before returning to Washington for talks with Secretary Root. He then will go to Cincinnati and sail to the Philippines via New York around May 17, leaving his family somewhere safe during Manila cholera danger.
More than two hundred people attended a basket party at National Hall in South Boston hosted by Court Solon No 15 Loyal Knights and Ladies. The event featured a basket sale and entertainment with a large amount of money raised.
