A mob of angry friends disrupted a scene as a figure identified as "Brother Willie" was assaulted. Levi Gould was chased through the streets while onlookers jeered. Judge Lawton's ruling is reported as guiding the proceedings and an indication that "Fresno Dan" may receive a fortune.
A North Dakota man Daniel Blake Russell vows to contest a judge's ruling. He declares the judge mistaken and promises continual fight, framing the dispute as only the first round in a longer battle.
The contest lasted 122 days with total estimated cost over 205000 dollars. The stake was 500000 dollars. Claimant appeared in Boston on April 26, 1909 with seven lawyers and 217 witnesses heard. Trial began September 20, 1909 and final arguments ended April 11, 1910.
The Tufts College trustees voted yesterday to cease coeducation at the close of the current college year. Beginning in the fall term the Jackson College for Women will take in the female students. Continued on Page 4 Third Column.

Rome April 12 The Vatican released a statement regarding a call by Abbot Lawrence Janssens secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith who could not find President Roosevelt in Rome. Janssens left a card expressing congratulations for Roosevelt s support of the Catholic Church in America during his glorious career and hoping it would be resumed.
The Vatican denounces Father Janssens for acting on his own to approach Mr Roosevelt, saying the move lacked authorization and could offend the Holy See. The statement reiterates Vatican policy that it does not want Roosevelt to equate the Pope with other royal figures he boasts of meeting after Europe trips and an Africa hunt.
Four thousand conductors and trainmen on the Boston & Maine were granted a wage increase from 3 to 15 percent after two weeks of talks between road officials and their unions. The agreement largely meets the workers demands and mirrors the Baltimore & Ohio settlement by Knapp and Neill.
The agreement sets a ten hour standard for a day’s work. Yard service men keep the same day length, while passenger and freight service conductors and train men see shifts reduced from eleven to ten hours. Workers gain full demands as a result.

Senator Leslie A. Simpson plans an immediate appeal to the Supreme Court of Massachusetts after Judge Lawton ruled that J. D. Russell of North Dakota is an impostor named Daniel Blake Russell. All petitions against the Russell estate of 500000 were dismissed. Simpson vows to press the fight to higher courts.
In Melrose a thousand-strong crowd mobbed the street, lynching an effigy of William C. Russell and chasing ex Mayor Levi Gould into an electric car. The uproar grew after Gould’s presence sparked hoots and shouts as the crowd demanded action against Russell and others named in the controversy.
