New York Central and Hudson River railroad again refused to raise wages for conductors and trainmen. A meeting in New York tonight informed workers the company would reply tomorrow. If no agreement is reached, the strike vote remains in effect with 97 percent voting to strike from New York to Buffalo.

The men demand wage hikes from eight to sixty four percent while offers ranged eight to twenty five percent. Hadley Tragedy as Mr and Mrs Gerry Die in Train Collision

Mr Thomas E Gerry 55 and Mrs Alice T Smith Gerry 43 of Hadley were killed when their car was struck by a Central Massachusetts train at the Middle street grade crossing. The crash occurred as they traveled from Northampton toward their Hadley home. The auto was hurled 75 feet and 20 more feet, both skulls fractured. The scene near Hadley station was long deemed dangerous with no warning bell. Gerry was a renowned Connecticut Valley tobacco grower and former selectman.

Fatal attack on Jennie Langdell ends father’s life

Salem April 11 A barber Gerosa Mariotta 29 attacked Miss Jennie Langdell as she returned home from church slashing her head with a razor and was chased by Officer Begley. Langdell 66 collapsed dead at his door from heart failure after seeing his daughter badly injured. Miss Langdell, bleeding from several head wounds, remained unconscious for hours but is expected to recover. Mariotta was captured after a pursuit and charged with assault with intent to kill.

Commissioning of 26000 ton battleship under Commander Plunkett

Yesterday at 10 30 Lieutenant Commander Twining commissioned the 26000 ton battleship with Commander Charles Peshall Plunkett of Jamaica Plain taking command. The ceremony featured hoisting of the national ensign and commander pennant, a salute, and the yard band playing The Star Spangled Banner. Plunkett will command at the yard while camp equipment is installed for four months. Captain Mulligan may assume command later. The ship’s crew totals about 200 seamen plus 900 sailors and 59 Marines onboard.
