French Hold Against Terrific German Drive

Paris April 4 official statement says fighting resumed this morning north of Montdidier with fierce German assaults over a 15 kilometre front from Grivesnes to the Amiens Roye road. About 11 German divisions (roughly 120000 men) were identified by prisoners as attacking. Our troops resisted with courage as German masses were mowed by artillery. Despite repeated efforts they gained only a few hundred metres and held Mailly Raineval Morisel and adjacent heights. Grivesnes remained in our hands after counter attacks and progress. Between Montdidier and Lassigny both sides pressed with heavy artillery activity.
