General Carranza announced at 8 p m that Torreon had not fallen and troop positions were unchanged. Reports of Torreon’s fall caused riots in Juarez as rebels sought confirmation from Villa via Gomez Palacio. no confirmation could be transmitted.
US consul Marion Letcher in Chihuahua forwarded Carlos Caruthers Villa front notes claiming Torreon fell at 1 30 pm. Rebel rumors spread as crowds jammed telegraph offices and guards searched for weapons amid suspicions of delayed official confirmation.
Emil Mahr, a six year violin and viola instructor at the New England Conservatory of Music, died at his Brookline home after a 14 week illness. Born March 25, 1851, in Wiesbaden he studied with Joachim and befriended notable composers and performers including Bruch Liszt Rubinstein Sarasate Wagner Patti and others. He served as concert master in London, toured Britain with Adelina Patti, and was chef d orchestra at Mains along with Bayreuth festival appearances.
Jacob Watchmaker testifies in U S District Court that his cousin and former lawyer ex Representative David Mancovitz stole 16000 of his money and lied. Mancovitz faces charges of receiving 17116 from Watchmaker to defeat the bankruptcy act while awaiting sentences in state and federal courts.

Mrs Jennie Polchinsky a 28 year old mother of four attempted death by inhaling illuminating gas in the kitchen of her home at 111 Boylston street Malden yesterday noon Despondent over her husband s unemployment and extreme want leaves the family in a cheerless home the incident was reported by local authorities.
Boarder Karl Cummings found Mrs Polchinsky unconscious with a tube to a gas jet in the Polchinsky kitchen. He alerted neighbors as the street filled with activity. Dr Jacob Norman with officers and a pulmotor treated her for about thirty minutes before she was out of danger.
Alice M. Williams an 18 year old Chelsea girl and former usher at St James Theatre Huntington Avenue was arrested in New York yesterday on a complaint by her mother. Police and detectives say she was duped into a false marriage.
Dorsa Pisano, about 35, arrested alongside a missing woman linked to a Chelsea affair. Authorities plan to charge him under the white slave act and add bigamy if he is married. The couple registered as man and wife at the Girard Hotel. Andrews secret service agents say the girl’s parents funded the case. The mother, distressed by the disappearance, learned of the arrest immediately. A Chelsea official may travel to New York to return the woman. The specific pursuing officer remains to be designated.
Mrs. Henry Siegel testified she knew years ago her husband swindled bank depositors and warned him of jail. She said he induced her to leave America, had assets beyond dry goods stores, and defrauded her daughters' husbands. The Supreme Judicial Court ruled Adjutant-General Gardner W. Pearson may serve until his five year term ends. Governor David Walsh loses the contest over Pearson's resignation and the Foss appointment deemed constitutional.
