United Press International reports war across multiple fronts between Israel and Arab neighbors. Heavy tank battles rage along the 626 mile border with Israel and clashes involve five Arab nations over key cities including Jerusalem. Jordanian forces shell Israeli positions as Tel Aviv reports gains in Sinai with armor breakthroughs and a possible strike on UN HQ.
The United States urged an immediate ceasefire as large scale fighting broke out between Israel and Arab states. President Johnson summoned top officials to a White House conference and called for U.N. Security Council support to halt hostilities amid reports of air battles and casualties across Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Syria, and surrounding areas.
A major power failure cut electricity across most of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, reaching Delaware. Lights faded from 10:23 a.m. EDT and spread to Harrisburg, Wilkes-Barre, and Wilmington within a half hour. A two car collision on the Northwest corner of the square in Leonard Saturday afternoon caused light damage. Highway Patrolman Jake Jackson identified the drivers as Rogers Freeman of Sulphur Springs and Charles Wilkins of Leonard. Damage estimated at 275 dollars.

Cairo reports heavy Israeli air attacks with at least 70 Israeli planes shot down. Explosions were heard near the capital as air raid sirens sounded repeatedly. The UAR Foreign Ministry charged that Israel began the aggression.

City officers report an $80 damage collision at Sam Rayburn and Center. Patrolmen W. J. Breitwig and Fred Clark identify drivers as Willie Ray White Jr of Honey Grove Route 4 and Dean Granison of Couper.

United Press International reports Texas weekend violence pushed the toll beyond 40. The count runs from 6 p m Friday to midnight Sunday, with 31 auto crash deaths, two drownings, seven homicides, and one miscellaneous death. Three Lloyd E White family members of Lorenzo—46 year old father Roy and his wife and their 18 year old son Richard—died in a two car crash near Benjamin.
U S Marines report at least 540 North Vietnamese dead in a two day clash south of Da Nang as they push through the Hiep Duc Valley chasing up to 2000 fleeing troops. The battle left 73 Marines killed and 139 wounded with 66 more enemy bodies found. In Quang Tri, South Vietnamese forces claimed 243 Viet Cong killed over two days. Air losses included two MIGs shot down and two American planes missing after strikes over the north.
Firefighters responded to a trash fire on East Sam Rayburn Sunday night. A burning barrel blew out and lodged against a nearby building, prompting emergency crews to extinguish the blaze.
In Manchester England 160 Britons died in two DC4 crashes over the weekend. Queen Elizabeth II said she was shocked and grieved and urged sympathy for families. A plane from Palma Majorca with 72 of 84 aboard crashed in Stockton. Earlier a second craft killed all 88 aboard in the French Pyrenees. The disasters set a record for deaths in a single day in aviation history.
Area forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures with little rain expected in the Bonham region for the next five days.
