Robert Albright mayor was among buyers at the Medders property auction in Muenster. He purchased round table cloths hundreds of strands of Christmas lights and beauty shop equipment.
The Pentagon announced 15 divisions of Army Reserve and National Guard would be abolished, including Texas 49th Armored Division and 36th Infantry Division. Texas drill strength would rise from 17,225 to 17,409 with surviving units better equipped and three high priority brigades planned. Brig. Gen. James M. Rose spoke from Austin about increased unit strength and support.
Harold Mazey manager of Benham Lumber Co. is installed as president of the Benham Lions Club for the ensuing year. He succeeds Roby Windham, former vice president of First National Bank, who served previously. Three Soviet warships entered the eastern Mediterranean as a U.S. destroyer moved into Port Said to transit the Suez Canal. Egyptian demonstrators jeered the American warship while Tel Aviv signaled caution about a regional war and Israel pressed at the United Nations to defend the Gulf of Aqaba.
In Roxbury Boston police armed with submachine guns and bayonets prepared to quell threats of new rioting after a Friday night outbreak that damaged property valued at over 550000. Officials reported at least 49 injured including 24 officers and 61 arrests.
The Bonham Chamber of Commerce declares June Civil Defense Month. Charles Carter chairs a new civil defense board with members Ralph Ryan Joe Campbell and Dr L C Biggers to assist city director Dave Manning and county director G L Holman in building a disaster plan for Bonham and Fannin County. The board aims to help Bonham qualify for the national CD organization with local headquarters.
President Johnson told a New York fundraising crowd that Great Society welfare programs must be funded to be worth anything. He said Democrats must push for larger appropriations as Republicans vow to block every inch of their proposals. Kennedy introduced him at the first dinner.
UPI reporting from Washington states State Department officials were glumly silent on Charles Yost’s Cairo mission and his talks with Egyptian leaders. They noted only a meeting with Foreign Minister Mahmoud Riad and said normal contacts continue between the U.S. and Egypt as Yost may visit Israel before returning home.

A car out of control damaged the shrubbery and lawn of H. E. Smith at 702 Elm. City Officer Don Windle identified the driver as Edward Robert Branch of 777 East 17th Street. Branch reportedly lost control and swerved into the yard before driving away.
Bonham Safeway stayed open as three employees walked out during a Retail Clerks Union strike that began at 1 p m. Clifford Lumpkins said locals were hired to cover and Dallas office supervisors assisted. Pickets handed out circulars to customers while F G Marlow said the store would remain open to meet customers needs.
U S Marines clash with Communist forces in Dan Nang and Quang Tri sectors as heavy fighting leaves at least 450 dead in one assault near Dan Nang. The air war reports 125 missions with two planes shot down and 569 American planes downed since earlier patrols.
R W McKinney of Nacogdoches and Leonard awarded the U S 69 widening and resurfacing project between Trenton and Leonard. The low bid is 357 376.59 dollars for 6.6 miles. James Cravens notes work includes widening grading drainage and a two course surface. Completion is expected in 120 working days with Lewis Clement in charge. McKinney is currently rebuilding State 12 between Trenton and Bonham upgrading roadbed and curves.
The 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard starts a two week summer training camp at Fort Hood as the Defense Department announces the disbanding of 1 275 Army Reserve and National Guard units including the 49th and 36th divisions. Some members have already begun six months of active duty with remaining Texans shifting to reserve roles as units shrink. Brig Gen James D Scott notes possible broader effects.
Four Fannin county 4-H members Paulette Williams Sher rll Shipman Wilson Howell and Ginger Sturdivant head to College Station for the State 4-H Roundup after winning District IV at Denton Their county improvement demonstration on field crops will be presented with Extension Agents Wayne Cranfill and Mrs Mable London accompanying the group They depart Bonham Tuesday around 10 a.m and must be registered by 5 p.m at the college Mrs London takes a week of annual leave and will join the group in College Station
