United Press reports schooner Samuel C Mengel sunk 175 miles off New York Sunday last. Fishermen claim two more ships were sunk with heavy sea firing heard along the coast. An ad seeks a six room house to rent by the year in Honey Grove. Route it. J N McFarland.
Clark IL Starnes reports the Fannin County boys reached Deming New Mexico a few days after leaving home. They had a good trip with much fun along the way and now are getting down to business in earnest.
The Exemption Board sets four county registration sites for men of age since last June hth. Dr John E Nevill presides locally with Louis Blankenship at Leonard Earl Nunn at Telephone and John Bacon Saunders at Honey Grove coordinating the process.
Dallas, June 4. The Treasury Department and National War Savings Committee announce the June drive to pledge the 91 million dollar War Savings Stamp quota for Texas. National War Savings Day is June 28 with emphasis on personal pledges to save invest and support the war effort.
Miss Sallie Joe Carlton announces a Summer Music Class starting Wednesday June for thorough work aimed at credits to be established in Texas schools. Private instruction is offered at Carlton Apartments, 366 10th St, with enrollment urged for 1912 19 term to secure desirable tours.
United Press reports French authorities estimate American machine gunners killed at least a thousand Germans during the battle for Chateau Thierry. The bombardment involved tens of thousands of machine gun bullets and left streets filled with German casualties.
Paris reports German assaults on the western Marne front were repulsed. Chezy south of Oree saw violent attacks halted with heavy German losses while fighting along Carlepont Autreches and Dommiers fronts continued with limited artillery and machine gun responses.
The schooner Esther B. Douglas reached New York harbor with 250 survivors from the Carolina disaster. On board were 156 passengers and 94 crew, including Captain Barbour and 10 officers from the San Juan military training school. Officials report 27 parties still missing and 10 passengers plus 17 crew unaccounted for.
Washington dispatch reports 110 casualties with 39 killed in action 13 died of disease 6 from accidents 3 severely wounded and 40 missing. Five officers are listed among the killed none from Texas.
Fresh shipment of Whitman's candies received and kept on ice at Willson's Drug Store. Store advertises cooled storage for confections.
Two black waxy farms near Moore's Chapel are sold at a sacrifice, with J. M. Lowrey noted in the record.
The Red Cross requests old sheets table cloths and smooth fabrics for wrapping bandages. Citizens may deliver items to headquarters or notify the president who will arrange pickup.
President Wilson again seeks to save Thomas Mooney's life after his re sentencing to hang for involvement in a dynamite plot that caused deaths. He sent a telegram to Governor Stephens of California urging clemency in this case.
A. L. Deibel of Little Rock Arkansas offers 200 shares of Hoffman Oil & Refining at 175 dollars and 1100 shares of Buffalo Oil & Refining at 190 dollars via telegraph orders.
Sunday afternoon Willie Blackshier and Thirsie Lambert wed at the Methodist parsonage in the city. Rev. W. L. Tittle of First Methodist church performed the ceremony.

Washington reports forty thousand men from twenty states are summoned for general military service. Entrainment occurs between June 20 and 25. Texas provides three thousand to Camp Travis, Arkansas three thousand to Camp Pike, Oklahoma five hundred to Camp Funston. the call set targets primarily of Black enlistees. June totals exceed three hundred thousand nationwide.
Secretary Daniels defends keeping the door open to France for American men, supplies, and food to reach the Allies across the war zone. Treasury head McAdoo lowers insurance rates for masters and crews traveling through the submarine peril zone.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Russell and daughter Mary arrived home after visiting Ft. Worth. A heavy rain near Van Alstyne stranded their car in six miles of thick mud, delaying their travel before they could continue.

The Boy Scouts of America under Scout Master Jack Biard and the Roy Scouts are asked by the President to locate all black walnut timber in the country. They seek owner names, tree sizes, and purchase prices for war production. Owners urged to notify Biard or allow scouts to assess their timber to aid national defense efforts.
Mrs. Jno. C. Sparger learns her son Joe Wombwell at Camp Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina, has passed the overseas examination and earned a commission and may depart for France soon. The Favorite bets on his success in any duty he undertakes.
