Baker seeks faster coastal air defenses for Atlantic line

United Press reports on Baker proposing sixteen coastal aerial defense stations to deter submarine and air attacks. Each station costs about one million dollars with thirteen along the Atlantic coast, sites chosen and ready. Construction could begin within six weeks after funds are available.

The steamer Kenilworth Castle carrying 322 passengers arrived damaged after midnight of a collision with a heavy object believed to be a mine or torpedo. Four lifeboats were launched with one overturning. some passengers and crew were lost though the ship did not sink.

A 30 man American patrol penetrated the German third line in the Luneville area in France. They faced about 200 enemy troops, using grenades bayonets and bullets in a twenty minute clash that caused heavy losses to the Germans while the American unit suffered only light casualties.
