Bluffton crowds estimated at about 350 plus, plus many from Muncie and Marion head to Robinson Park for a Fraternal Assurance society picnic. Trains and streetcars carried attendees, with athletes and a baseball team among the party.
An unidentified full blooded Indian Princess from the Sioux tribe travels from Warren to Muncie aboard the Clover Leaf train en route to Ohio to lectures for the 2 Methodist mission school in Indiana. Her travels span Europe, and she has featured beads rings and fine dress as she tours.
Miss Ella Hicks and Mr. Jesse Stringham quietly married last week after a brief visit to Charlotte and a wedding trip through Jackson and Detroit. Hicks, formerly of this city, had lived with her parents in Eaton Rapids Michigan, while Stringham lived nearby. The couple planned the union with the blessing of Hicks family who did not oppose the romance.
W i H Jeffries, a Decatur churn salesman, drank himself to death in Huntington and was found in a lumber yard after a days spree. He had worked door to door between drinking intervals and was known in Blyffton. He leaves two wives and two children. His father is a bank cashier in Springfield, Ohio.
A temperance lecture will be held at Reiffnburg church Sunday evening July 6. The wheelchair lecturer will speak at eight o clock, admission is free. Music will be provided by Joseph Hawk, a blind musician. Everyone is urged to attend and hear him.
Notes for Capt Brown and company set July 26 to August 3 for the state encampment at the state fair grounds in Indianapolis. Troops arrive July 26 with no sham battle due to space, uniforms unchanged, pay set at 1 dollar per trip from state and 50 cents from the national government. Captain Mason and another officer will advise adjutant general. Also reports on new militia companies at Goshen, Marion, Salem and Bluffton sent to Washington. Tonight at Hartford City a marriage unites Edna Hutchison and Charles W. Cline with a wedding trip east planned.
At a special meeting the city council approved purchase of a new fire wagon capable of carrying a thousand feet of hose fifty gallons of chemical and a set of ladders. The vehicle cost thousand dollars.

Hartford officials scrutinized Leon Charles owner of the Lake Erie saloon after a probe into alleged law breaking. Charles claimed he sold to Blackwood on June 17 but no license has appeared in Blackwood’s name and the saloon appears to operate illegally. The Hartford City Times urges closure and officials move to enforce.
The Lancaster advisory board voted to add two rooms and steam heating to the Craigville school. A three year high school course will be added and the emergency exists to authorize trustee Joel Frye to borrow funds for construction with repayment via future tax levy.
Bert Koontz and crew are reshaping the Central school by creating archways to link rooms and widen passages for class flow. Next year aims to repurpose rooms for recitations instead of teachers. A new front roof is added and chimneys are lowered.
The committee has finished preparations for a large Fourth of July celebration. Wabash street will host all speed events in prime condition, Linn Grove’s band and another group organize for the parade, and fireworks plus balloon ascensions are scheduled. A substantial sum is invested to ensure a grand, festive day and a memorable townwide event.
Red Cross lodge and Knights of Columbus plan a four story building at the corner of Commerce and West Main in land Indiana. Architect J E Hammons of this city drew the plans for the new structure with a classical entrance. Construction aims to reflect a grand lodge and community facility.
