Springer Bill and Currency Substitute Presented in House
Washington December 21 Mr Springer of Michigan laid before the house a substitute for the currency bill containing amendments agreed by the Democratic committee and features of the Carlisle bill. The measure permits currency certificates to back deposits, allows state banks to obtain notes, and redefines safety fund funding with a 0.25 cent tax until restored. It shifts redemption control to the comptroller of the currency and allows banks to withdraw bonds with lawful money. It also imposes 6 percent interest on certain failed bank notes from suspension until redemption funds are ready. The largest Jay county mortgage for 1 million dollars is recorded by Ohio and Indiana Vipe Line Co. to Central Trust Co. of New York.

Elizabeth Kunkel wife of Samuel Kunkel dies at home in Tocsin after ten years with consumption and ten months confined to a room. Born August 10 1844 she was a former county teacher and sister of Representative M C Blue. Funeral held at Toesin A B Church conducted by Rev Smith. survivor include husband and daughter Ivy aged about twelve. Jacob Campbell of Harrison School No 5 reports vacation and plans to teach a three and a half month term at Roberts School in Liberty township.

Birthday Dinner Honors Wisner at Seventyeightth Birthday
Last Thursday Senator and Mrs J B C Smith hosted a dinner for Thomas L Wisner father of Mrs Smith in celebration of his seventy eighth birthday. Deacons and their wives joined the gathering forming a thirty person party. An arm chair was presented to Mr Wisner and two group photos were taken at Ashbaucher's gallery. The day marked another milestone in Mr Wisner's life.
