Oldest Wells county settler dies at Liberty Center
Mr First a longtime Liberty township resident and 1836 settler died at eleven in the morning at Senator Rinear's home. Born in Pennsylvania he would have turned 92 next March if living. He came to Wells county in 1836, entered 160 acres, and helped found Liberty township. He served as township trustee and justice of the peace, remained a lifelong Democrat, and attended Dunkard church. Funeral Friday at 10 at the Dunkard church, with burial in McFarren cemetery.

Dead Soldier's Remains Laid To Rest In Bluffton
Remains of Carl Buck, a Civil War and Spanish American War veteran, were honored in Bluffton with a large funeral at the Methodist church. The service, led by Rev. L A Keeks, drew a full crowd as drums, volleys, and tears marked the farewell. Buck died in the Philippines after being ambushed while traveling between posts. his body was interred in Manila before being brought home by his father’s efforts. The procession included veterans from the 47th regiment band, the 160th I V L, Civil War veterans, and the American Mechanics lodge, with a final burial at Mill Cemetery after a lengthy journey from Manila via San Francisco and transport Thomas.
