Eli Lovell, a stock buyer, picked up a woman with a three month old baby near Vera Cruz. She handed him the infant and fled with his horse and rig, leaving him to chase the pair. The baby was eventually found safe with nearby residents and placed with Mrs Laumgardner while Lovell recovered the horse.

Notting ham Man Escapes Serious Injury In Runaway
Walter Harriet narrowly escaped death in a runaway near Silver’s farm in Nottingham township Friday night. His horse bolted after a white blanket covered team passed. He was thrown from the buggy at the Silvers barnyard, suffering facial cuts and chest trauma. A physician treated and he was released as not seriously injured.
