AFL Switchmen Strike Across Five Railroads
Four thousand AFL switchmen walked out against five major western and midwestern railroads halting trains on four lines. Great Northern reported normal passenger service on its 8,000 mile system but freight was curtailed. The walkout involves members of the switchmen's union of North America and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Arthur J. Glover said the strike centers on a 40 hour week with many men working 48 to 56 hours without overtime. T. E. Bickers urged postponement to aid ongoing mediation with Trainmen and Conductors unions.
