Acquittal Ruling in SRC Thefts

In Wheeling Ohio County Court a jury acquitted Paul E. Nichols of grand larceny in a tire theft case tied to seven indictments. Nichols, a former equipment supervisor for the State Road Commission, was cleared on the tire theft charge while co-defendants Mose, Philip, and George Petros pled guilty to four indictments. Court actions may delay five remaining indictments until October term.

Alderson Man Elected To Mechanics Post

Rev. C. W. Ambrose Jr. of Alder son West Virginia was elected national vice councilor of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics in the only contested election at the group's national convention in Cincinnati. The meeting set resolutions targeting Communism including penalties for Communist party members and activity and barring Communist literature from the mails.

Spencer State Hospital official resigns after 15 years

Byron E. Holswade, Spencer State Hospital manager for 15 years, announces his resignation effective June 30. He will be 70 in August and has held prior roles with the state Road Commission and Roane County youth program. The State Board of Control has announced a successor. Maj. Gen. Lewis B. Health Board To Plan County Unit In Mercer County

The Mercer County Board of Health plans to set up a county health unit based at Bluefield with eight members to be chosen by the county court board of education and local governing bodies. The Health Council will meet quarterly and continue duties to inform the public on health problems and marshal public opinion in support of health steps.

General Telephone Company of the Southeast informs Princeton and Bluefield business customers of upcoming telephone number changes effective Oct. 6, 1955 at 2 01 a.m. Local calls will use five digits, long distance will use letters. Princeton becomes Garden and Bluefield becomes Davenport. Letters with new numbers go out today. new directories arrive Oct 11 to 15.

Tanker strike ends for East and Gulf Coast in contract deals

The East and Gulf Coast tanker tie ups ended as major operators reached agreements with their employees unions. Sinclair Oil Co. also announced deals with three ship officers unions, signaling releases for remaining strikebound tankers along busy coasts.

John McClaugherty son of Mr and Mrs W N McClaugherty has been named Associate Editor for the 1955 56 West Virginia Law Review The Law Review is published by the College of Law under the West Virginia Bar Association He just completed his junior year at West Virginia University and on May 3 was commissioned as second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps He has been granted a delay from active duty to finish his senior year in law school.

Texas Newspaper Man In Critical Condition

Amon G. Carter, 75, publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, is reported in critical condition at his home. He has been ill for some time after two heart attacks in February 1953 and has remained home since returning from New York in April from the AP and ANPA annual meeting.

Woodmen Plan Boys Club at Camp 217 in Princeton

Wilford B. Hamlin will direct the Woodmen of the World Camp 217 youth program. The Camp will form a Boys of Woodrafts Club July 7 at Matney hall. Forty two boys aged 8 to 15 have joined as junior Woodmen members to participate in fishing conservation and other outdoor activities including an annual camping trip.

Kiwanians Hear Talk On Human Relations

Clarence Young of Concord College spoke to the Princeton Athens Kiwanis on Human Relations and Education. He described teacher training at Concord and teachers moving to other states. This was the club’s fourth talk in the series with guests Frank tein Lawrence Griffith and J S Bobbitt.
