Increased costs cited in city's fire fee hike
Bluefield officials approve a fire protection fee increase to 1984 levels. The ordinance raises the fee 10 percent effective July 1, with residential charges from 20 to 80 dollars based on building size and commercial rates scaled by total square footage. City leaders defend the move as restoring funding needed to balance the budget despite prior reductions.
