At the Athens commencement five Thompsons appeared on stage with Ralph and Dale Thompson earning A B degrees and Mary Lee a standard diploma. Millard French of Beckley joined generations of diploma recipients in a multi family lineage. Dr Mason French was elected Alumni president at the banquet on June 2. Boy Scouts Troop 3 hosted a May meeting below their cabin entertaining Girl Scouts with a campfire and contests led by Pine Tree patrol. The Methodist Missionary Society met at S E Via’s home with results supporting the Elizabeth Ernest fund and a porch addition for the parsonage.

New Beauty Parlor Opens in Jennings Building
The Petite Beauty shop run by Mrs Thelma Kennedy formerly of Parson's Beauty shop Princeton opened to the public yesterday in the Jennings building Athens. Mrs Kennedy is assisted by Mrs Georgia Weddell of Detroit and offers cosmetics facials and other beautifying services.

Concord Training School Opens Summer Session Tomorrow
Concord Training School under Principal G. W. Bryson will begin the summer session tomorrow. About 75 pupils have enrolled and total enrollment is expected to reach around 85. Classes cover grades one through six with observation and practice teaching for college students.

Librarian Miss Ora Peters Leaves for Nashville Courses
Concord librarian Miss Ora Peters departed Thursday for Nashville to take special courses in library administration at George Peabody Teachers College. She is accompanied by Mrs Fay Nelson of Princeton who will spend several days there. In her absence John Peters oversees the library with Irene Pendleton and Grant Thomas serving as library assistants. A sewing room is opened in the Jennings building by Mrs Lytton and Mrs Ella Basham offering sewing and dressmaking services.

Professor Frank Cutright head of botany reports two flora types found during field trip in West Virginia. He notes hawkweed Hillacium pilosella identified as exceedingly rare in the state.

Professor Cutright's plant find is accepted by West Virginia University's botany department. The species is uncommon in the United States and, once established, hard to eradicate in meadows and fields.
