White House aided Contras through private intermediaries
The White House used outside intermediaries to run a private aid network supplying military support to Nicaraguan rebels after the 1984 aid ban. Lt. Col. Oliver North oversaw intermediaries including Robert Owen and Gen. John Singlaub, coordinating arms purchases, fundraising, and trainer enlistment through fall 1985 despite congressional restrictions.
