Rival Dance Promoters Take Troubles To Court
In Bluefield a court denied two injunctions over Cab Calloway's orchestra appearing on June 11. Promoters claimed contracts with King Amusement and $1,000 guarantee plus $125 advertising were breached. The American Legion Roy Scott post holds 60 percent of profits and leased the armory for the event. Florence seeks to block use of the armory and rent to exclude others, citing exclusive arrangements for dances for colored persons. Judge Tanner ruled the remedy at law, not chancery, and the case continues with other motions pending. Franklin K. Day Jr. admitted to the bar.
