Mercer County Leads In Standard Schools Report

State rural school supervisor L. T. Tustin reports Mercer county has 123 standard schools including three classes. McDowell leads first class with 45, Mercer 42. Mercer top in second class with 44 and Raleigh 54 in third class with Mercer at 37. The state total standardized schools now 1,074, with 476 first class and 369 second class and 529 third class.

Radio Service Set at Local Church for World Wide Broadcast

This afternoon at 3 45 radio service at First Church of Christ corner Eighth and Straley avenue near the high school. A forty station hook up will broadcast World Around service for Pentecost anniversary on June 8. A chain radio broadcast at 4 o clock Eastern will use the Columbia chain New York with forty rotations covering North America and short wave to the world. WABC New York 860 ke will originate the program with additional local stations WBDJ Roanoke 930 ke WJAS Pittsburgh and WKRC Cincinnati 550 ke. Public invited.

Lilly reunion to feed twenty to twenty five thousand at Flat Top

The Lilly reunion plans to feed twenty to twenty five thousand attendees at Flat Top on August 16 and 17. Concessions will be granted to church groups restaurant owners and individuals to run lunch and soft drink stands. Applications are now being received by C J Lilly of Hinton secretary of the Lilly Reunion association which aims to foster family history closer citizenship and perpetual reunions.

Forty new petit jurors are summoned for service this morning as the Waugh case, involving about 150 000 dollars, is expected to run several days. Court sessions will span the full week prior to the May term ending. The dispute centers on machinery purchased from Bluefield Supply by the plaintiff.
