The notice states the marriage of Genevieve Ravaatte to Edward Jerkhid Kavenough at the taillage in Columbus Ohio. The couple will reside at Fifth Avenue Columbus Ohio after January 1 2041.
Kiwanis arrangements are complete for the annual Ladles Night meeting and banquet of the Bluefield Kiwanis club in the ballroom of the West Virginian hotel on Monday evening January 1 at 6:80. Officers for the ensuing year will be installed and an unusual program is planned to supplement the ceremony. Indications point to a very enjoyable evening.
Mrs Merchant of Raleigh entertained at a Christmas bridge gathering for visiting guests including Robert Marchant and Miss Louise Frasier. Mrs Paul Yankee and the group served red and green mints and a salad course with fruit cake after play.
Bluefield reports a wedding planned for Saturday as Rev Harry Goodykoontz and Miss Betty Love prepare to wed. Goodykoontz, educated at Beaver High School and Davideon N C College, now pastors in Payetteville Arkansas after completing studies at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond Virginia. The bride, described as graceful and well-liked, rounds out a union watched with community interest.
Bluefield Shrine club hosts a dance this evening from 9:30 to 3 at the Masonic temple featuring Williams' Orchestra. Proceeds support Shrine activities.
Happy Family Gathering brings together eighteen relatives at the Williams home on Walton Avenue for an all o'clock dinner. Guests include Mr. and Mrs. J G Yost and many Williams family members with children and grandchildren attending, sharing a four course meal on a hand sewn Swah fabric tablecloth with a red rogen centerpiece.
Mr and Mrs W C Wallara of Callago avenue announce the birth of a son at Bluefield sanitarium named William Wyatt born to the couple.
Edna Wilburn will host an informal tea at her home on Parkway to honor Miss Tsahatle Hayes, head of Won an's hall at West Virginia University Morgantown, visiting the city during the holidays. The guest list includes present and former university students.
The National Forensic League banquet was held at Pickwick Tavern Blandstrodt with active Beaver High School members and guests served a four course dinner. Pink and green decorations centered the table with sweet pena bowls and matching garlands. Mrs C W Jackson sponsor and Mr Jackson principal were honored guests. Bill Goodykoontz retired president acted as master of ceremony. alumni elected Fields Richardson president Anne O Keeffe vice president and Martha Jane Williams secretary.
A holiday farewell dinner honored Edgar Shawver before his departure Tuesday for his home in Dickerson Maryland at Shawver’s Mill. Attendees included Pauline Callaway and Pauline Letcho Gratton, Helen Grubb, Lucille Leffel, Margaret Carper, Frances Kirby, Clinton and John Wade Leffel, Clyde Grubb, Odell Reynalda, Glen Kirby, Roy Kirby, Jack Puckett, Mrs. John Puckett, Fred Puckett of Princeton, Jed Laffe Gratton, Mrs. W. Letfo and family. Music by Olen Kirby, Odell Reynolds and Jack Puckett.
Religious services will be held this evening at the local synagogue. The pulpit will be occupied by William Slegal of Brooklyn, noted speaker and president of the Brooklyn Ztonlat district. The service will be conducted by Julian Cohen, prominent Jewish communal leader of Memphis, Tennessee.
Bluefield Clover club prepares its annual holiday dance at the West Virginian hotel to celebrate the 30th anniversary. About two hundred guests, including out-of-town attendees, will attend with charter members and their wives. Officers Bundy Harvey, Apilly Williams Jr, Shirley Brown, and Lane Nash join a board including Henry Frazier and others. Partners are named for several present members. The event features the Caroling Pines orchestra under Jock Wardlaw, with elaborate decorations expected.
Mr and Mrs Richard Bailey of Morgantown were honored guests at a dinner party hosted Wednesday evening by Bernard Cynpinghar at the West Virginian hotel. Mrs Bailey’s mother Mrs H L Bailey and her parents Dr and Mrs J Nelson attended. Covers were set for twelve with close friends among the honorees.

Families travel from Pulaski Ironton and Lynchburg for holidays. many return home to Muscle Shoals area.

A fifty year old man Raymond Miller was arrested after onlookers saw his barefoot two year old son standing on an ice coated street corner while the parent begged for coins. Police took the child to a hospital where he was found cold and numb. In Miller's pockets police found shoes, coats, and $6.21. The mother later took the boy.

The federal government has filed a lawsuit against the Clearing House banks of New York on behalf of depositors. The action targets twenty banks within the Clearing House association, with the case centering on depositor protections and banking practices.
The government sues the Clearing House banks and individuals who served on its committee claiming they gave written guarantees for Harriman National Bank deposits in 1932 and 1938. It seeks to force recognition of a binding agreement to protect Harriman depositors, disputed as crisis measures with no formal obligation. Approximately half of depositor claims were paid in July via an RFC loan. total funds needed to satisfy all deposits are estimated at 9.275 million dollars.
