A local store opens the year with a large inventory featuring over 500 pocket knives, razors, manicure sets, watches, clocks, wagons and sleds, air guns, shotguns, rifles, and revolvers, inviting customers to inspect the full plate of merchandise.
J K Harpy administrator for James R Johnson deceased of Macon County Illinois will appear before Macon County Court in Decatur at March term on first Monday in March to adjust claims and collect debts. Claimants must attend and debtors pay promptly. dated December 21, 1898.
James Pope a former resident of his neighborhood died at his parents residence near Winchester Kansas aged 37 years 6 months 28 days. Mrs Clara Colby and family visited his mother Mrs Vida Griffith and Mrs Elmer Divan of Storm Lake Iowa were guests. The piece notes his death and local reactions.
The W. F. M. S. will host a Colonial Tea Party at J. W. Browns residence on Feb 22 with committees for Programme Decoration Refreshments Relics and Music announced. Joseph B Vollmer of Macon and Miss Flora D Ogier wed in Macon Catholic church Tuesday at 10 1 oclock. The Elliott hotel new management assumed duties Tuesday evening after supper. Mr. and Mrs Langdon undecided on future moves. Leaver and Toledo Weekly Blade priced at one year for $1.25.
Dr William M Catto a leading Decatur physician was killed last Friday at Assumption in a fatal accident near the depot while attempting to catch a passing train. The coroner's inquest returned a verdict as reported. The funeral was held at the First Presbyterian Church with Masonic and Knights Templars honors and burial at Greenwood. Catto left about one hundred thousand dollars in property and thirty thousand in life insurance, having practiced in Warrensburg and Decatur over a 40 year career.
Businesses in the town will close at 7 o'clock during the protracted meeting at the Methodist church, except Saturday night. The move reflects the town's moral and religious tone and civic spirit.
Revival meetings at the Methodist church draw growing interest with several prayers requested and some conversions. Rev. Edgar in his sixth Illinois conference year with Blue Mound as his third appointment, has previously added many to the church. Also reported is a Royal Arch Masonic installation on Jan. 27 with officers elected and guests sharing oysters afterward. The week ends with a cold snap dropping to minus temperatures, followed by gradual warming, and a farm listing near Blue Mound offering 534 acres at 250 a year near Witt Street, Decatur Ill.

A birthday surprise gathering honors Mrs. L I Randall last night. About twenty friends met at Miss Lucy Farnsworths home and then moved to the Randall homestead. Guests included Bla J S Crank and wife B P Brewer and wife John Myers and wife A Brewer and wife with several others and John Randall of Marion county. Refreshments were served and Mrs Randall received a glass set and dress as tokens of esteem.
