Miss Mary Terrell wed Lieut John W Kidd son of County Auditor George E Kidd at Sullivan last Saturday. Kidd is stationed at No Gales Arizona and recently promoted to second lieutenant in the 35th Infantry. He has been on furlough and returns to duty. Boy Killed Jumping Train Near Switz City
Curtis Boswell, seventeen, was killed when he and Carl Oliphant hopped a moving freight near Bloomfield. Oliphant, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Oliphant, landed safely as they rode toward Switz City to apply for pole setting jobs. Boswell died after the wheels crushed him. Dr Cravens and Kidd's undertakers aided.

At Dr. B F Chambers farm, twenty eight Lyons women husked a thirty five bushel corn load in under an hour. The corn sold to the highest bidder for seventy dollars with a further forty dollars from lunch, all for Red Cross. Mrs Win Isenogle was the champion husker and won the prize.

Bedford Boys In England Visit To Bristol Home
Raymond Whitney and Wayne Mitchell traveled to London and Bristol to visit Mrs. William Mitchell, formerly Tryphenia Mitchell of Bedford. They described a three story English home with a flower garden, dining room with Chippendale furniture, and a grand piano. They toured Mr. Mitchell, head of a large tobacco company, and noted cigarette production in England. The pair planned to travel to Southampton, Havre, and Paris, with an open invitation to stay at the Mitchell home.

Greene Circuit Court convenes with grand jury duties set
The November term of Greene Circuit Court opened Monday with Judge Slinkard organizing the grand jury appointing Charles Chaney as foreman. Jurors were instructed to investigate all county crimes with emphasis on felony cases. the jury met at the sheriff's office and many witnesses testified as Prosecutor Vosloh led the inquiry, aiming to finish the grand jury work in two days but finding it would take longer.

War time investigations reveal cotton’s enormous need across combat and medical use. A 12 inch gun consumes half a bale per shot while a machine gun uses a bale every three minutes. Naval battles may burn over 5 000 pounds per minute per ship and absorbent cotton for wounded troops exceeds 20 000 bales annually. One change of clothing for all troops involves over a million bales.

The County Council of Defense held a 9 am meeting in Bloomfield with wide attendance. Attendees included Marion A. A report showed over five hundred service cards and 4567 food conservation cards signed.
