Lyons and nearby towns see residents in Bloomfield on business and social visits. Widespread measles affect Bloomfield schools as Edwardsport and area build up with a Vandalia double track and new power plant plans spurring housing demand.
The local Boy Scout troop marked anniversary week with a Thursday meeting at the G A R room. National scout president’s message and the annual report were read. Guy H. Humphreys led the talk with W T Brown and T M Ryan speaking. The scout oath was renewed and 250,000 US Scouts were referenced in concert. Scout master Orval Cain led refreshments in the Greeks. Sunday night the troop plans a farewell anniversary service at the Christian church with Rev Owen.
Henry Bunch once convicted of illegal sale and fined 50 dollars in Greene Circuit Court died at the Elmora hotel Wednesday evening. Once jailed after failing to post bond for appeal his mindset deteriorated. A Masonic member he was moved to Elmora for care, survived by three sons and his wife. Burial followed in Plainville.
A Monday night blaze at Gilmour destroyed the Terrell & Company store and the Vandalia Coal Co office. Officials suspect a defective flue started the fire, which was found only after the building was a mass of flames. Bookkeeper Tra Wilks saved the books and one payroll. Goods stock and several documents burned. Loss partially insured.

Local clubs and Federation updates highlight Lincoln Day programs, Endowment Fund growth, and new club openings in Pendleton Greencastle Arcadia Lake County. Mrs. Fairbanks invites nonmember daughters to serve as pages at Fort Wayne convention in October.
The Senate passed the Matson bill 32 to 16 granting women the right to vote except on constitutional questions. It now goes to the House, with federation clubs confident of approval. Women may vote for delegates to the constitutional convention but are excluded from the city primaries.
The tenth district leadership outlines plans to expand club presence with meetings in each county. Vice-chairman and county chairmen coordinate efforts in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties. George Taylor a prominent Greene county farmer and longtime teacher was instantly killed this morning while loading a log near Camp Ground about two miles north of Bloomfield. He was active in the farmers institute and a respected figure in local education.
The pastor and four local ministers preached on The Modern Christian this week with unique sermons yet common substance. The church choir, led by H. L. Deney, provided excellent services. Additional church members are praised for their help and welcome support. The pastor will preach on the same subject tonight and again Saturday night on the First Psalm. Sunday services focus on children in the morning and "Sin" in the afternoon.
The church outlines the fourth sermon in a series on Christian Character by the pastor next Sunday morning with Bible school at 9 30 C E at 6 00 The Boy Scouts will attend the 7 00 evening service with a special program and sermon on The Boy at his Best Rev Merritt Owen to preach at Furnace Church Sunday afternoon at 2 00
A bathroom oil stove exploded at the home of Mrs. E. E. Gainey on Monday night, causing extensive damage to the floor and woodwork and breaking window panes as heat unsoldered pipes. Fire narrowly avoided serious injury.
The jury commissioners will meet next Monday to draw names for petit and grand jurors for the February term. The court will close for two weeks between the November and February terms. The February term starts with a grand jury session and the water will be turned on at the wheel. Civil cases include State of Indiana ex rel Gladsey Gabbert versus Carl Bolton bastardy and Fred E. Dyer trustee versus Fannie R Shelburn and Robert Shelburn foreclosure.
W L Slinkard named guardian for Henry Bunch with an unsound mind and Mary A Dysart appointed guardian for Sophrena Bohley, with the accounts tied to mental sanity.
Roy Abrams aged 22 of Greene county and May Hudson 19 of Greene county wed by Rev Merritt Owen. Howard Baker 23 of Jasonville and Stella Kimmel 18 of Wright township marry. John A Barnard 25 of Jasonville and Martha Harris 19 of Linton wed by Rev Allen C Trusty. James F Templeton 34 of Linton and Lillie B Schoonover 24 of Linton marry.
Irving Berlin reworks Peck's Bad Boy into a breezy musical farce with merit. The cast, largely vaudeville veterans, performs to keep the audience in good humor. The show plays the Bloomfield Opera House on Tuesday February 13.
William O'Donald died Friday January 31 at his granddaughter Mrs. J B Burks home in Indianapolis. Born March 4 1832 near Scotland Indiana he married Martha J Roberts in 1852 and had ten children four of whom survive C M Dobbins Bed ford Alex East Clay City Ben McDonald New Harmony James O'Donald Newberry. He leaves eight grandchildren seven great grandchildren and many friends. Funeral services were held at Simpson Chapel.
