Craig Bonnarens of Big Timber and Sweet Grass County has again captured the Montana Wrist Wrestling Championship. Details are on page 4 along with other sports briefs.
About 400 people attended a public hearing on S1671 to create the Absa roka Beartooth Wilderness. Support was mixed, with a strong showing against the bill led by Rep. Ron Marlenee and Sen. Lee Metcalf’s position cited. Local officials and residents voiced opinions on wilderness boundaries and tax effects, while calls for compromise appeared among some speakers.
SGCHS celebrates 1977 Homecoming with a parade on McLeod Street at 2:30 followed by a pep assembly and snake dance. Three Forks visits for the football game at 7:30 with crowning of the queen at halftime. Events continue Saturday with Manhattan basketball games and an Homecoming Dance after the game.
Marlenee aides Bob Ziemer and Mark Overton justify a fast wilderness hearing tied to Lee Metcalf’s 1671 bill to create over 900000 acres in the Beartooth Absaroka area. They note mark up in the Senate subcommittee soon and possible House action early next year, with hunting season conflicts cited.
The mobile office of Congressman Marlenee arrives on McLeod Street in Montana's Eastern District. Residents may call to discuss issues with Field Rep Clancy Rich who communicates daily with Marlenee and provides weekly concern reports.
The SGCHS Sheepherders host the Three Forks Wolves in Southwestern B football this Friday at 7 30 p m. Homecoming includes crowning the 1977 queen and escorts for seniors. Three Forks features a large, experienced lineup led by coach Jerry LaRoque with notable players at guard center tackle and tight end.
