The Montana fish and game department adds an extended deer season in Sweet Grass county from December 3 to December 24, following an October 8 open date and a two-deer limit in the regular season. The notice signals an intensified effort to reduce big game in the area.
The outstanding player Harry Berg in the Sheepherder Laurel game was not printed this week due to engraving delay. A N P fast train pickup failed to arrive Monday and mail contents were scattered along the right of way. Postmaster Harold McLauchlan searched in rain, hoping to recover all mail.

The grade school board entertained teachers with their annual dinner at Dallman Hall on Tuesday evening. Husbands and wives were invited guests.
The Future Homemakers of America held their initiation Tuesday at 8 p m with President Susan Anderson praising the new enrollment. New members include Penny Nunley Gay Anderson Joyce Vandervoort Bonnie Anderson Barbara Purcell Barbara Beck Nita Hauge Peggy Gottlob Judy Schriver Kathryn Zimdars Connie Jarrett Gloria Reidelbach and Carol Renneberg. A reception followed in the home economics room with chapter mothers Mrs. Howard Hanson and Mrs. Orvin Flare serving punch and coffee.
Linda Clark was installed as worthy advisor at a public ceremony in the Masonic hall. Janice Nevin, Cindy Hanson, Myrtle Camp, Jan Johnson and others were named as officers and members. Gail Flare retired as worthy advisor. installing officers and refreshments followed.
Dr John M Wolfe of the Atomic Energy Commission told 250 scientists at a Colorado State University symposium on radioecology that fallout shelters would only offer a temporary reprieve in a nuclear war. He said shelters cannot prevent death where environments become incompatible with human life.
Pictures of the Panama Canal Zone and Panamanian natives will be shown by Dr. Bill Hoskinson for the local Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose on Monday September 25 at 9 p m The public will be welcome. Steve Johnson Edward Hale and Earl Bouse Jr left for Missoula Sunday morning by car to enroll in the university for the coming year.

Mr and Mrs Jim Felknor of Minneapolis, avid bow and arrow enthusiasts, return for their annual hunt. Felknor bagged his deer Sunday while visiting at the Carl Patterson home. Old Timer Tosten Stenberg of Livingston dropped by Big Timber Tuesday afternoon, renewing old acquaintances and missing many familiar faces.
Dr James W Raleigh of the American Thoracic Society urged immediate vaccination against influenza for high risk groups. He cited Surgeon General Luther L Terry warning of a possible fall uptick and called for cooperation with health officers and physicians to protect those with lung or heart disease diabetes and other chronic illnesses older adults and pregnant women.
Mrs Emma Green was admitted to the hospital on September 13 for medical care and was discharged on Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Fred Lunceford of Hamilton Montana marked their fiftieth wedding anniversary on August 20. Married November 4 1911 they once ranched near Big Timber moved to Bitterroot then Hamilton retiring in 1950 now at 649 Adirondac Ave. They have eleven children and many grandchildren with a large family gathering at the Eagles hall.
Lorraine Plaggemeyer won the Farm Bureau speech contest and Linda lost the talent contest at the Legion hall Saturday evening. About 200 attended as Lorraine spoke on Farming in the 60s and Linda earned a state convention trip with her piano act. Winners by age group were listed with first and second places and cash prizes.
Mrs. Bill McCauley reports relocation to Santa Maria California after a year away. Bill works as a carpenter and on a new grade school with five day weeks and good wages. The family bought a trailer, toured California and Nevada, and notes Vandenberg Air Force Base nearby with missile launches observed.
A two mile hunter access trail along Bacon Rind Creek in Yellowstone opens west of the park boundary for big game. It is shared by the National Park Service the U S Forest Service and the Montana Fish and Game Department with four rules including no camping and permits at trail entrance.

William Thornby, a Billings veteran patrol captain, takes charge of the Billings office replacing S W Hancock who moves to Butte. Thornby, 19% years in the patrol, has lived in Miles City Bozeman and Butte and led a Billings unit for two years commanding 18 men. Hancock served six years as Billings captain and previously worked in Miles City Butte and Deer Lodge.
The SGHS Homecoming events feature a parade at 1 p.m. and a football game at 8 p.m. at the athletic field with Roundup Panthers as the opponent. The queen will be crowned at halftime, followed by a homecoming dance around 10 p.m. The sixth annual celebration honors classes 1911 1936 1956 and 1961 with many alumni invited.
Protest funds totaling 88104.75 dollars, held for 1955 through 1960, were released to Sweet Grass County under a Bozeman court order by Judge W W Lessley. The case involved Yellowstone Pipeline taxes and the extended protest.
The Big Timber Herders held Laurel Locomotives scoreless on their home field last Friday. A third quarter drive reached Laurel’s three yard line but failed at the goal line. Acting House Speaker John W. McCormack announced there will be no postal rate increase bill in this session. He said President Kennedy was informed at a White House meeting that there is no chance Kennedy’s request to cut the postal deficit will succeed.
Montana state liquor control board says gross liquor sales reached 3.1 million in July and August with net profit of 1.082 million after excise and license taxes in the first two months of the current fiscal year.
A son, Calvin Charles, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Zimdars on September 14. He weighed seven pounds at birth.
