Big Timber Boat Club Elects Officers at Meeting
The Big Timber Boat Club held a Monday meeting at the Dugout with good turnout. Vern Spurgin was named commodore, Bob McComb vice commodore, Norman Starr director, and Mrs. Howard Hanson treasurer. Plans include entering the 1961 Outboard Boating Club of the Year contest and work days at Glasston lake to move in a building with new dressing rooms and shade shelters. Docks will be removed after boating season to prevent ice damage. The next meeting is set for April 1962.

Mrs. Fred Rose aged 83 of Reed Point died at home Sunday evening after being bedfast since February. Funeral services were at EUB church Reed Point with Rev. E. J. Bott officiating and burial at Mountainview Cemetery. Born June 21, 1878 Hillsboro Iowa she moved to Montana in 1911 homesteaded near Columbus and later lived in Livingston and Reed Point. Survived only by her husband.

Torger Olson 65 died Friday evening at Community hospital after a long illness. Born September 8 1806 in Norway, he herded sheep in Big Timber and Livingston areas. He suffered a broken leg four years ago after being struck on Highway 10 and had limited mobility since. Survivors include three brothers in Norway Vancouver Canada and Enumclaw Washington. Funeral services will be held this Thursday at the Lowry Chapel with burial in Mountain View.

Hereford Assn Holds Field Day at Fraser Ranch
A cool rainy day marked the first annual South Montana Hereford Association Field Day at the Fraser Hereford ranch near Reed Point. Some 175 attendees heard a breeding stock selection demo and watched cattle judging and weight guessing for 4H and FFA members and adults. Roger Thompson won the youth contest and will receive a registered Hereford heifer on October 20 at the Fraser sale. Mrs. Chris Thompson led the women’s judging and weight guessing, Orlando Terland topped the men’s event, with Kermit Karst of Hereford Journal officiating.

Survived by daughter Mrs George Pease of 1336 Claredon Ave Phoenix 14 Ariz. She and husband Al Phillips ran a local drug store for years and she also ran the Big Timber cafe and a gift shop.
