Fire at Hellroaring Burns 23 Acres Near Sheep Creek
A fire at the head of the Middle Fork of Hellroaring, west of Sheep Creek, burned about 23 acres before control. Lightning likely started the blaze spotted Wednesday around 3 p.m. and declared under control by Friday 2 p.m. Seventy firefighters and equipment were deployed from the Independence area, with multiple air drops of retardant by B 17 bombers and four jumpers from West Yellowstone. Smoke jumpers from Missoula and Livingston crews arrived by bus, and three helicopters aided transport as a 50 man camp was airdropped. Tom Ellis, Big Timber District Ranger, said earlier arrival of more fighters and retardant could have reduced the burn.

Emma Emily Baxter aged 84 of Reed Point died at home after a long illness. Funeral service held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Church with Rev. E. J. Bott and Rev. W. F. Clingman officiating. Burial followed in Reed Point Cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include husband James S. Morey Service Held in Wheatland Wyoming
Funeral services for George Myron Morey were conducted Friday in Wheatland Wyoming with Rev. Carlos Hernandez officiating. Interment followed in Wheatland cemetery. Morey, born September 23 1909 in Angora Nebraska, was a World War II veteran who died September 1 in Seattle Washington Veterans Hospital after an extended illness. He had lived in Bremerton Washington the past year. Survivors include Eleanor Morey wife two daughters two sons in law a brother four sisters and seven grandchildren.
