City planning board weighs proposed Big Timber zoning ordinance
The Big Timber City-County Planning Board met August 27 to discuss a proposed zoning ordinance for the city. Norman Grosfield led the session with board members including Don Henke and Jim Snodgrass. A public meeting is set for September 9 to present the ordinance outlining Class A and B districts, land use, lot dimensions, setbacks, and mobile home rules.

A special meeting on August 26 brought 13 youths and 15 adults together at the Lutheran Parish hall recreation room. Geraldine Fenn led discussions, highlighting key problems such as too many adult activities, need for more youth programs, and better youth adult relations. Youth were urged to initiate further action with adult help of their choosing.

Mayor Schump Discusses Northern Pacific Plan in Big Timber
Mayor Schump spoke to the Lions club about the Northern Pacific proposal to discontinue the Mainstreeter. He cited Big Timber residents’ share of 39 percent and read the 1864 NP charter. The Lions chose not to advocate loss or federal subsidy and left the decision to the Montana Railroad Commissioners. John Sheehy will question NP plans at Bozeman on September 5 at 9 30 am.

Burial Held For Mrs Hausserman in Absarokee
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Congregational Church in Absarokee for Nora Belle Hausserman 70 who died Wednesday at the Carbon County Rest Home in Red Lodge where she had been a patient since March. Rev Eugene Nilsen officiated with Pen Wright organist and Shirley Campbell soloist. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery Big Timber. She was born October 4 1898 in Tuscola Illinois and married Carl Hausserman December 14 1914 in Bozeman. The couple ranched near Stockade before moving to Absarokee. Surviving are a daughter Mrs Delbert Huff, a sister Mrs Madge Tronrud, two grandchildren Carl and Sherri Huff, and five nieces and nephews.

Peace Corp Camp Concludes Training Near Melville
The Peace Corps training camp near Melville ended August 27 after starting July 2 at the pits de ranch. Forty four started. two resigned. Thirty four agricultural trainees went to Ecuador for a month of further training, while eight electrification trainees head to Taos New Mexico to train with Kit Carson REA. Dr Robert G Dunbar led the facility and Ecuador program since 1962 for Montana State University. He noted satisfaction with the ranch concept and doubted next year’s plans amid Washington administration changes.

Fair Style Review and Dog Show at the Fair
The 4H girls staged a style revue on Thursday night with senior Claudia Woodhouse winning a purple rosette and several blue and red ribbon recipients.
