The Sweet Grass County Herders claim a Midland Empire Conference football co title after a 22 14 loss to Roundup. Big Timber and Red Lodge also win to force a three way tie. playoff set in Laurel to determine District 5 rep for Belgrade Class B title.
Big Timber Herder football clinched the Midlnd Empire Conference crown by defeating Huntley Project 12 0 in the final after earlier wins over Red Lodge 6 0 and 20 8. Paul Briesh and Clayton Davis scored while Dennis Henthorn added key yards. The team meets Belgrade Panthers for the Southern Divisional Class B title in Belgrade on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs Clyde Miller of St Maries Idaho visited Big Timber to view a yard care contest hosted by the Wiligro Garden Club. She and her husband praised the well kept yards and gardens, requested contest details, and planned to start a similar event back home. The club responded, fostering a seed of friendship.
Paul Becken won the 2 mile in a state record 10 14.8 as SGHS tied for third at the Eighth Annual Cross Country Championships in Great Falls with over 70 Class B runners. Charles Becken placed third with 10 29. teammates included Burmeister Wick Buster and Solberg.
Sunday events at multiple venues featured grades Pre K to Eighth in 7 to 9 pm activities with films by Lions Club. Team scores show Cut Bank edged by Browning for second while Frazer Busby and Shelby posted class wins as thirteen schools competed at Great Falls Municipal Golf Course. Paul and Charles Becken earned medals as their team placed third overall. Jim Graham accompanied the seniors.
