McLean Clark urges residents to beware door to door salesmen offering furnace or heating stove cleanings. He recalls cases where homeowners sign costly contracts for unnecessary repairs, with local plumbers offering fairer prices and inspections that keep money in Big Timber.
In a grade school auditorium a seventh grade petition challenged rulings by teachers Don Churchill and Bill Brown. Attorneys and administrators attended as television coverage was limited. Plaintiffs and defendants testified with a verdict for the plaintiffs permitting class organization and officer election for next year. Potential further action was noted. Stockmen are reminded of the Fraser Hereford sale at Sid Fraser ranch on Interstate 90 starting at 12 30 with 92 yearling bulls two bull calves 36 bred heifers from Fraser ranches and Fraser offspring.
Mrs Daniel Wicher of Glenns Ferry Ida and Mrs Paul Shrum of Glenns Ferry were selected as Idaho outstanding young women of America by a nationwide group led by Mrs Lyndon B Johnson. Nominated by the Eastern Star Chapter for service to community charity and professional achievement Mrs Wicher is a Girl Scout leader and mother of five. Mrs Shrum teaches at Glenns Ferry high school and is PTA member and mother of four.
Back to the Boulder Mn and Mrs Ray R Frye after an absence of a year during which they were residents of Richey in Dawson county have returned to their home on the Boulder for an indefinite stay.
Billings business leaders led by Mayor Willard Fraser visited Big Timber for a noon luncheon at the Legion hall. The tour highlighted Montana's economic and education challenges as speakers urged regional cooperation and expansion in higher education.
Carrie Hattie Blakeley 78, longtime Boulder resident, died Friday in Sacramento after living there three years with daughter Lena Pedersen. Born June 30 1887 in Glenwood Iowa, she married Charles T. Blakeley in 1904. Survived by son Perry Blakeley and eight daughters, plus 37 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Lowry Chapel with Rev. Donald E. Toney officiating. Interment Mountain View.
John Thermond Baker, 72, retired Bearcreek farmer and World War I veteran, died at his Red Lodge area home. Born February 2, 1898 in Mount Vernon Kentucky, he moved to Livingston in 1916, homesteaded near Big Timber, later farmed near Red Lodge, and retired to Bearcreek in 1957. Surviving are his widow Perle and daughters Esther Farrer of Red Lodge and Asa Cantrell of Great Falls.
Festivities organized by Moose Lodge Jaycees Jayceens Eastern Star Masons Pythian Sisters Knights of Pythias Legion and Auxiliary Women’s Club and Royal Neighbors. Hallowe'en events run from dusk to the witching hour with activities for all ages at various halls and the high school.
The league leaders again top the standings as play continues this week. Harlowton and Huntley Project loom as title contenders with a possible three way tie if Project, Harlo and Roundup all finish 7 1. Columbus visits Big Timber Friday with other games scheduled Saturday.
Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Legion hall Wednesday November 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eligible donors are healthy adults 18 to 60. ages 18 to 21 require parental consent. Donors can give up to five times per year with eight weeks between donations. Free blood in county hospitals. typing and tests may incur charges.
Mrs Bert Versland died at her home on Fourth Ave West about 3 PM yesterday afternoon. Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.
Alyce Reidelbach 49 died Friday at Sweet Grass Community hospital after a long illness. Funeral held at Lowry Chapel with Rev. W F Clingman officiating. Burial in Mountainview cemetery Billings. Survivors include husband Pete Reidelbach two stepchildren and siblings. Miss Reed born 1916 Sparta Illinois. longtime Montana resident.
Nicholas Campanella of Reed Point Montana died Monday afternoon from acute leukemia after a lengthy illness. Funeral services are set for 2 p m today at the Reed Point Evangelical Brethren church with Rev Arvid Lindley and Rev C K Richards officiating. Burial will be in Reed Point Cemetery. Born December 3 1890 in Marshall Colorado he homesteaded south of Reed Point in 1911 and worked as a brakeman for the Northern Pacific at Livingston about 11 years. He married Alta Renfield December 7 1918 at Columbus. He is survived by his wife a son Robert Campanella of Kansas City Missouri a grandson five sisters and three nephews.
The Sweet Grass Farm Bureau members and spouses held a no-host dinner at Frye's cafe on Wednesday October 20 to organize a county membership drive. Howard Hanson chairs the drive with plans to reach new Marchers. members expect to attend the state meeting in Bozeman yesterday. The next county meeting is set for 8 p.m. at the Legion hall.
