A letter accuses the state fish and game department of greed over wildlife policy arguing 500 twenty dollar nonresident deer licenses are issued despite dwindling deer. The writer urges buck only seasons for residents and warns the department risks eliminating the deer population and the golden-egg goose.
The Big Timber Woman's Club will present a children's play The Merry Pranks of Tull by Daniel J Freisch hacker, featuring Tyll Eulenspiegel as a German folk hero. Mrs. Bill Cole plays Tyll with Mrs. Chas Schuler as the King and others in colorful palace scenes. two performances are scheduled November 12 at 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM in the Grade School auditorium.
Stan Gar of Roy stopped in Big Timber on Monday to visit his niece Mrs Harold Rue and family. It was his first visit to Big Timber since the Rue family moved there, though the rancher’s trip was not far.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Sweet Grass county on Wednesday November 10 with active recruiters in rural areas and Big Timber. Four H clubs Grey Cliff Hillbillies Porcupine Butte Dry Creek Wranglers Big Timber Creek Boulder Meadowlarks Yellowstone Victorians Cayuse Hills Boulder Club Otter Creek Beavers join the effort while American Legion Auxiliary works in town. Seven county residents will earn two gallon pins. many more hold one gallon awards. The drive seeks new and returning donors ages 18 to 60 to meet the county quota.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Fallang and two sons visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fallang for two weeks in September after returning from three years in Spain where he served with the Air Force in Seville. The family is now settled in Sacramento California with him based at McClelland Field.
The City of Big Timber maintains a busy Dugout as a shared community hub used daily for gatherings. Improvements include storage cupboards, a donated piano, two new tables by clubs, and ongoing gifts of dish towels and pot holders. folding chairs are the next project.
Lena Findley Oleson, 67, formerly of Reed Point, died at her Oak Grove Oregon home last Thursday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Saturday in Oak Grove with interment in a Portland mausoleum. Survived by husband Melvin Oleson of Oak Grove, a daughter Barbara, and brothers Sterling Findley, Ross Findley, Fred Findley, Bill Findley, and Earl Findley, plus seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Born June 3, 1808 in Nebraska, she moved with her parents to a Reed Point area ranch around 1914 and later lived in Billings and on the coast.
The Big Timber Sheepherders and the Columbus Cougars battled to a scoreless draw on the local field last Friday. Ellison and Mosness left with ankle injuries. Columbus played short-handed without star fullback Henderson. Herders host Roundup Panthers in the season finale, aiming for fourth place amid Roundup’s strong offense led by Byford, Moss, Igo, and Johnson.
Vernie Hathaway was elected president of the Sweet Grass County Farm Bureau at a meeting last week. Kenneth Flare was named vice president, Mrs. Robert Brownlee chairwoman of the women’s committee, and a slate of directors was chosen for the coming year. Voting delegates to the state convention on November 14 were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dempster, Mrs. Howard Hanson, and Mr. and Mrs. Hathaway.
The county 4H Recognition program will be held this Saturday evening at the Legion hall beginning at 7 30 Following the program square dancing will entertain the evening with Edgar Langston from Harlowton calling This event marks the close of the past year s 4H program in the county and the public is invited

Elzie A. Cubbison, 47, hospitalized at St. Vincents Billings after a heart attack suffered October 21 while operating a cat at Yellowtail dam where he works. His daughter Mrs Ralph Faw visited him last week. He is listed in very serious condition.
Funeral services for Ethel Frances Versland 77 were held at the Lowry chapel after her death Wednesday. Survivors include husband Bert Versland of Big Timber, two sons Elzie and Leo, four daughters Mildred Grande Ruby Raisland Opal Larson and Inga Rodden, a brother H E Hancock, 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Addie Newman Ripley, former Big Timber resident, died in Hermosa Beach California at 87. She was a 1907 Big Timber High School graduate and is survived by three children, several grandchildren and a great grandchild with burial in California.
Elmer Schott of Grey Cliff again appeared in the Who's Who drawing as his name was chosen from a packed entry box. The winner misfired by two clues, with Mrs. Ed Holmberg drawing the final winner. Bill Cole led the contest and its lively Q and A. The correct list contained ten clues and the treasure up to $205 drew keen participation from a knowledgeable crowd.
L. D. Severance welcomed members of the A and W Root Beer bowling team to City Club Lanes Wednesday evening in honor of his wife’s birthday. Guests included Mrs. Clarence Petaja, Mrs. Ray Bieber, Mrs. Leo, Mrs. John Jacobs, and the honoree.
