Serving Big Timber Montana readers urged to check pages 8 and 9 for fund dispersal details. Local notice reminds voters to cast ballots on the golf course loan today from noon to 8 p.m. Other notes point to page 6 sports results and page 5 overseas mail deadlines.
Polls open at noon and run to 8 p.m. for county voters to decide a loan for development and improvement of the golf course. Voting centers include Fire Hall precinct 1 Court House precinct 2 Daliman Hall precinct 3 and Dugout precinct 4. Ballots offer For and Against the loan with ordered positions varying by precinct. Results posted at the County Clerk and Recorder's office after counts.
Sweet Grass County High School trustees schedule a public meeting in the Melville area on Tuesday Nov 1 at 7 30 p.m. at the Settlement School House to discuss the upcoming Nov 8 bond election for land purchase for a new school site. If weather cancels the event it will be moved to the Melville Lutheran Church. Community members are urged to attend with questions or comments.
Absentee ballots for the special high school bond election are ready at the County Superintendent's office in the Court House. Clerk Mabel Abney says ballots will be available until noon on November 8. The office operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sweet Grass County votes into a unified drive with 25 volunteers training Nov 1 to canvass city and county for six agencies including Red Cross Heart Cancer Boy Scouts Girl Scouts and Hospital Guild. Chairman Jeanne Eigen notes effort aims to finish within three days city and ten days county despite volunteer shortages and a high school poster contest winner David Lieva with runner up Janet Myrstol.
District sanitation chief Ray Hedrick explains a temporary taste in Yellowstone River water from surface sources is caused by leaves dissolving and reacted with chlorine. The taste, harmless and not implying lower quality, should fade within about 30 days with variability by location.
Clocks set back one hour at midnight Saturday as the nation returns to standard time. The extra hour means darker mornings on Sunday and a reminder to adjust all clocks to avoid being late for work Monday.
The City Council met on October 19 to discuss water and sewer policy, landfill needs, and interstate utility lines. They appointed Dick Josephson to the Park Board, elected Joe Hansen as council chairman, accepted building permits for Armand Andicelli and Tom Savage, and signed a state road materials purchase agreement.
