City Hall hosts a City Council meeting at 7 30 tonight. A note on the SGCHS Board of Trustees option to purchase a school site appears on page 5. A plea for help locating long lost relatives arrives at the County Clerk. The worms saga and sludge debate are featured on pages 5 and 6.
A special election will be held next Wed Oct 26 from noon to 8 pm at four precincts to approve a county loan of 108 350 from FmHA to aid the Overland Golf Course Ballots will be yes or no per precinct A simple majority of turnout decides the issue County Attorney Ken Olson noted no percentage requirement for county loan elections Overland Recreation Association will repay from course revenue and projections suggest the course will be self supporting next season A Letter to Voters from the association explains golf course operation and the loan request.
SGC Sheriff's office received a report of garbage dumped on private property off Tin Can Hill. Rancher Francis Blake found household trash and beer cans on his land and noted the occurrence was more unusual. Dumping on private property is a misdemeanor with up to a $500 fine and up to six months in jail.
Local Post Office and USDA offices will close next Mon October 24 for Armistice Day. City Hall county offices and both banks will stay open. Spokesmen say offices observe the holiday on November 11. calendars label it Veteran’s Day though it falls on a Friday this year.
The Sweet Grass Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon tomorrow at Frye's. The agenda includes finalizing committees and considering three proposed projects, one already approved by the board. The board and members aim to complete committee formation to advance core Chamber goals.
Grade School hosts an open house at 7 30 p m next Tuesday October 25 inviting parents and the public. Superintendent Ed Argenbright notes time for teacher discussions and student work viewing with a gym film strip at 8 30 and American Legion Auxiliary serving coffee and cookies.
Gallatin Forest Supervis or Gene Hawkes announces six new access points to National Forest land including Joe Brown Trail three miles from highway 89 to Joe Brown and Slip and Slide Creeks costing 35000 and Pony Creek one mile road in Battle Ridge costing 30000. Opened 12000 acres.
Vicki Moulden achieved a hole in one on the number 4 hole using a 6 iron while playing with Ruth Schuler and Marguerite Anderson. Jim Baldwin had donated a $25 bond previously for the first golfer to ace the course, and he repeated the gesture for a male winner or teen in the future.
Lee Metcalf's $1671 proposal to create the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness remains in Senate subcommittee and likely won’t be acted on this year. Aides say action could come in the 1978 session with the bill as the vehicle, differing from the House version which includes Wyoming High Lakes.
