A public hearing on the SGCHS Board land purchase for a school site drew about 30 attendees led by chairman Don Powell. Trustees debated building plans and voter turnout for the November 8 special election while confirming the land purchase as prudent though future construction remains undecided.
About ten residents spoke at a City Council session last Wednesday voicing concerns over a new $1 fee for extra trash pickups and thirty gallon can limits. They debated burden on residents, dumpsters, and possible private removal as a remedy.
The BTGS Board of Trustees kept the current sports eligibility rule in place requiring students deemed ineligible for grades or attitude issues to sit out one week before potential reinstatement. They also approved a gym usage fee plan and discussed other school matters including ramps for handicapped access and an upcoming high school bond fact sheet.
The Sweet Grass County High School football team welcomes Manhattan Tigers for the final home game of 1977 on Friday October 14 at 7 30 p m local time. Pre game ceremonies will honor senior players Jamie Alexander Jim Baker David Dotson Jay Graham Jim Hauge Frank Kolschefsky Dan Luttschwager Matt Petaja Glen Raisland and Rick Shaw along with Colleen McCauley the senior cheerleader and their parents. Manhattan coached by Kim McMurray runs a split T with the league leading Belgrade tying them 0 0 in the first half last week. The Tigers feature 230 pound tackle Les Oldenburger 210 pound Don Hawbaker 190 pound Jim Linker and quarterback Eric Obrigewitch. The Herders close the 1977 schedule on Wednesday Oct 19 at 2 00 p m in Townsend due to Montana Education Association meetings. Townsend coach Chuck Harvey leads a quick 4 4 defense and a strong rushing attack led by Mike Meyer.
City Hall says the garbage truck’s new motor runs well and no third engine is needed. Investigators found ball bearings in the original engine suggesting vandalism. Polygraph tests were conducted on city workers with two more planned. Svend Maitland and Mayor Oscar Stephens reportedly oversee the probe.
Principal Garret Franks invites the public to visit the high school during an Open House on November 8, the day of a special school election to approve a bond issue for land purchase for a school site. Polls run noon to 8 p.m. at the high school gym.
Forty seven contestants gathered last Saturday for the annual Punt Pass and Kick contest at the Starr Ford sponsored athletic field. First place in each age group earns a trip to the Billings zone competition this Saturday October 15 as Starr Ford guests. Local winners include Darren Davis 8, Rocco Carroccia 9, Shawn Fuller 10, Duff Bergquist 11, Rob Henthorn 12, and Edwin Schott 13. Winners advancing to the Salt Lake City district contest will be selected in the near future.
The American Red Cross blood drawing in Big Timber is rescheduled from October to November 17 to allow August donors to give again after the 66 day interval. The Bloodmobile will be at the American Legion Hall with American Legion Auxiliary providing help and refreshments.
