In Sweet Grass County Montana SGHS Herders prep for a hard football clash as page 11 teases a detailed recap of last week’s close game. An adult science class in Big Timber promises engaging explorations with practical science notes, details on page 11.
At a two hour open hearing in Big Timber nine attendees including city officials and residents evaluated EPA 208 options for sewage treatment. The favored plan would stabilize the existing 20 acre lagoon with an 18 acre addition costing about 201000 federal 75 percent aid and local 25000. Critics warned of costs and regulatory risk.
SGHS board approved an FFA trip for six boys to the National Convention in Kansas City with board covering about 465 for gas and advisor costs. Four hundred dollars came from the State Association for placing second in state judging and 400 was raised locally. The trip, led by advisor Lynn Godfrey, runs Nov. 8 to 11, with insurance as the sole condition.
Big Timber athletes excel in the Billings Zone event with Rob Henthorn winning first in the 11 year old group scoring 196 feet and earning a spot in Great Falls on October 9. Mike Little placed second with 239 feet and earned invitation to Denver events, while Matt Carroccia took third in the 8 year old group with 105 feet.
A Monday night collision near the Boulder River Bridge, 0.3 mile east of Big Timber, left Lorraine Rohrbach and Cynthia Decker injured. Rohrbach, 21, a MSU student, was admitted with back injuries and expected to be released soon. Decker, from Miles City, sustained a severe chin laceration and received local treatment. Both cars were total losses after Rohrbach swerved to avoid a dog and collided head on with Decker.
County commissioners approved using $33,000 in revenue sharing funds to purchase 208 McLeod St. for $35,500 to rent to the Hospitality House at $1 a year. The Senior Citizens raised $2,500. the building remains county property if the Hospitality House dissolves.
