The Herders of Big Timber and Sweet Grass County Montana will play at Three Forks this Saturday at 4 p.m. Fans are told to check page 8 for last week's victory story.
Steve Ford, during an outdoor interview in Big Timber last Saturday, avoided specifics on the election, warning that a Carter win could lead to Meany as a shadow Secretary of Agriculture and harm farmers. He touted a free market approach, criticized government interference, and cited ongoing discussions between President Ford and Secretary Butz amid signals of a recovering cattle market.
Steve Ford youngest son of President and Mrs. Ford spent a Saturday in Big Timber joining local Republicans at Frye's Cafe for lunch and public greetings. He mingled with officials including Conrad Fredericks Barbara Schilling Nora Hanson and Florence Haegen while ABC News filmed his visit for a Good Morning America segment. The entourage carried beef promotion packets for the T Bone CowBelles and other campaign materials as Ford discussed agriculture with residents before continuing the westward swing.
The City County Planning Board heard six alternatives for a new lagoon to treat sewage effluent and bring drainage into EPA compliance. Wenzel and Associates outlined costs, funding, and a 1,500 population scope while HUD 208 and 201 funds would cover portions. a public hearing is set for October 7 at City Hall.
Three accidents over the weekend left Big Timber residents Charles Bassett and Leo Bowen injured and a Bozeman woman hospitalized in Billings. Bassett remains in serious condition after a motorcycle collision south of Big Timber on Oct. 1. Bowen suffered minor vehicle damage and chest injuries in a separate truck collision on Oct. 3. Walter Saarela and his wife were involved in a Bru-Timber crash with a semi, leading to his drunken driving charge and the wife's hospitalization.
A late report states Farmers Home Administration approved a $418,000 loan to Sweet Grass Village in the Big Timber area to build twenty four one-bedroom units for senior citizens. The project, named by Robert Johnson, requires a zoning change approved in May by the City Council to permit multi family dwellings in Moore Addition.
The court house will be closed on October 11 in observance of Columbus Day, with offices resuming normal hours the next business day. Court operations are postponed and services requiring in person visits may be affected.
The Sweet Grass and Park Counties sue in US District Court Billings seeking recognition of a county claimed right of way for the 48 old Cooke Boulder road, naming the United States Forest Service and related officials as defendants. The case questions whether the federal government can claim jurisdiction over land claimed by the counties and cites historical actions from 1892 1893 and the 1974 Beartooth Wilderness proposal.
