The Yellowstone Valley Boy Scout Council held its fall camporee last weekend east of Big Timber with 233 Scouts and 41 leaders from eight towns. Demonstrations covered knife and axe handling, compass use, lashings and packing as Camporee activities culminated in a council fire.

Bob Davis, foreman on the Big Timber Ranger District, will head a 30 day detail to the Sun River Ranger District to rebuild a damaged trail into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Ranger Joe Helle will supervise the crew using a small trail dozer and hand tools. Bud Counter aided by three weeks in July to help set up programs and train crews for flood damaged trails.

Herders Beat Forsyth 7 0 In Defensive Victory On Road
The Sweet Grass Sheepherders upset Forsyth Dogies 7 to 0 after a 180 mile bus trip to Dogie field. Rich Paulson connected 20 yards to Brin Grosfield for the game winning TD, Grosfield sprinting 60 yards for the 80 yard score. Forsyth threatened early but stalled at the Herder 2 yard line as the defense held. This was Dads Night and the last home game for Huntley Project seniors Charlson, Grosfield, Hale, Jarrett, Langhus, Orestad, Osborne, Overton, Riter, Robinson, Sandsness, Schilling, Taylor, Watters, and Paulson.

The Montana Livestock Sanitary Board imposed a rabies quarantine on Bozeman after a rabid dog bit three residents and another dog. Over 200 of Bozeman’s 523 licensed dogs have been vaccinated since the plan began, with calls to vaccinate county dogs as well. Police ordered to shoot on sight any foxes or skunks. the dog victim died Saturday.

Birthday tribute to H. B. Doc Yerkes on 93rd year
The town celebrates H. B. Doc Yerkes's 93rd birthday today October 8 marking seven decades of local presence. He worked at J.H.J. ranch Boulder from 1893 to 1906 and married Marie Mahar in 1911 before long service with the Forest Service until 1937 and retirement to Big Timber.

Riverside California October 4 Pete Sekman 76 longtime local craftsman and business owner died after a two year cancer illness. He operated Yellowstone Garage in the current post office site and Sekman Snyder blacksmith shop in Sweet Grass. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge for many years. He is survived by his widow a son Phillip and daughter Eveline Graham Wilson of Covina Calif and several grandchildren.

10000 Acres of Range Swept by Flames
A wind driven fire swept 10000 acres of grass and foothills near Big Timber Friday afternoon. Firefighters from Big Timber, Columbus, Absarokee, Reed Point and Rapelje battled the blaze with dozers and water, evacuations occurred near the Hammersmark ranch, and 300 firefighters helped until dusk.
