Military Rites Held for Pvt Gordon F. Amery at Mountain View
Full military rites were conducted Thursday afternoon at Mountain View for Pvt. Gordon F. Amery son of Mr and Mrs W K Amery with Rev P N Bennett and Sweet Grass post No 19 American Legion officiating. Color bearer E J Husebye and guards Earl Green Jr and Herbert Wick led a firing squad under Louis Thomas with pallbearers Chuck Nichol Bill Ellison Herbert Wick Wayne Osterhout Raymond Bieber and Allen Thompson. Gordon born December 9 1923 in Big Timber graduated Sweet Grass county high in 1941 entered Montana State College then joined the armed services October 1 1943. He trained at Fort Benning served with the 383rd Infantry Division and went to Hawaii July 1944 landing on Leyte October 20 wounded October 24 and died October 25.

Sweet Grass county 4 H and F F A members fared well at the Butte fat stock show last weekend. Cherie Hoff man and Lloyd Gonkey won blue ribbons in the calf division, while the other six calves placed red. Forty three fat lambs from the county yielded four blue, 30 red, and 9 white ribbons. George Slanger won the sheep showmanship contest with runner ups Don Tet lie and JoAnn Stole. Eight of twelve finalists were Sweet Grass entrants, and Billy Fraser reached the calf showmanship finals. Bozeman’s Col Warwood paid 50 cents a pound for David Drivdahl’s lamb, netting $60.
