Farmers in Sweet Grass county vote December 3 to elect committeemen for the 1949 agricultural conservational program storage and loan operations and other county farming activities. The meeting is in the county courtroom at 1 30 p m with balloting starting at 2 30.
Funeral services for Pfc Edwin L Webb postponed as his body reached the area for interment. His father Leslie Webb of Eugene Oregon is ill with pneumonia. Melvin Williams, son-in-law of Beulah Patterson, hospitalized in Lewistown for a badly broken leg after a horse fell on him. Williams was found semi conscious near a Windham ranch near Stanford and brought to town.
The Lions club and Mervin Wertz's high school sociology class will conduct a census of Big Timber next week. Students will call at every home between 3 and 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and ask residents to be home. Rechecks will follow for missed addresses. The census aims to capture changes since the 1940 count and is part of sociology studies.
Readers learn of visits by Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Dyk and son in town from Manhattan, local job moves with E J Husebye heading west, and R Emmett Brown named district director of the Farm Credit Administration in Bozeman. Community events include Children’s Book Week, a surprise farewell party for Andrew Larson, and Moose auxiliary activities.
Sweet Grass County begins its forty second annual Christmas seal sale with residents receiving 1948 seals by mail Monday. Proceeds fund the 1949 tuberculosis prevention and control campaign led by co chairs Mrs A A Boettcher and Mrs H W Klindt. Funds and pencils sold at grade and high schools support the tuberculosis fund. Seals designed by Harry Bart of South Kent Conn features a quiet Christmas vigil by a child.

Lola Katherine Deegan daughter of Mrs Gylvester Lavold wed George Edward Tronrud son of Mrs Madge Tronrud in Livingston on Armistice Day. The 1 pm ceremony at American Lutheran church was officiated by Rev FE B Tollefson with Mrs Tollefson and their son as witnesses. The couple, lifelong residents, plan a honeymoon in Billings Lewistown and other Montana cities before settling at the George Tronrud ranch above Melville.
Another Boy Scout paper drive will be conducted Saturday at 2 30 according to Scoutmaster Palmer Finsvik. Townspeople are asked to have their paper on their curb by that time. Out of town people may leave their paper at the McIntyre Motor or at the Oie Motor.
Funeral services for Elmer Adelbert Tucker 64 were held at the Lowry chapel. He died suddenly at about 5 a m last Thursday. Officiating was Rev Glenn Clark of the Church of God. Burial followed at Mountain View. Tucker was born October 19 1884 in Dixon county Nebraska and lived in Maryville Melville and Big Timber. Survived by his widow three brothers Fred Clarence Albert and one sister Mrs Stender.
Claude Lacy aged 69 died yesterday afternoon at about 1 o clock at the Nils Peterson home after a long illness. He had resided on the Boulder and worked on ranches in the county, including herding sheep for W. N. Clayton and the Scholten brothers. Survivors include a daughter Mrs N E Wakeman of Marietta New York and a sister in California and a niece Mrs August Baldini at Roundup. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p m from the Lewry funeral home.
At the 20th annual Future Farmers of America convention in Kansas City Montana is represented by Carl William Idland of Big Timber in the list of 214 members receiving American Farmer degrees. Bill Gene Michaels Jr. of Billings also earns the honor as delegates from 47 states Hawaii and Puerto Rico gather for the event. Charles F Brannan secretary of agriculture and Oscar E Ewing administrator of the federal security agency praise the organization at the opening session. Dr W T Spanton of the federal office of education also speaks.
Clive W. Haas is elected president of the Rocky Mountain Telephone Association at its Salt Lake City convention. He previously served as vice president. Mrs. Haas accompanied him. they returned Friday. En route home they visited Rifle Colorado and Colorado Springs and sent regards to Big Timber friends.
The Riverside Badgers gathered at the F. B. Peterson home Friday with new president Jean Duncan presiding. They discussed 1949 program projects and leaders distributed a copy of the plan while a Christmas party was planned for December 10.
Arrangements are set for the annual high school carnival this Saturday night featuring an 8 pm Thespian play One Happy Family with cast Gaylord Wheeler Lawrence Furstenberg June Gibby Helen Sargent Marcia Viers Sigrid Tollefson Harvey McIntyre and Svend Maitland. Activities include cake walk bingo fortune telling duck throw dancing horse racing and a 11 pm queen crowning with candidates Sigrid Tollefson Dolores Hoem Rita Christensen Ruth Myrstol La Vonne Murd ay.
Betty Grace Fry and Raymond A. Bieber were married Sunday November 7 at a copal church ceremony officiated by Rev. Thomas Ashworth. The couple, from Butte and Big Timber, planned to reside in Big Timber after a wedding trip. The service featured sacred music with Violet Laity on the organ and Lohengrin selections as processional and recessional.
Miles Clemons and his son Bert left Friday morning to return to their home in Milo Alberta Canada after visiting here with Miles elder brother Jesse Clemons.
Bill Michael of Billings and Carl Idland of Big Timber earned the American Farmers degree, the top honor of the Future Farmers of America. Among Montana’s 1,600 FFA members, they were chosen for the degree at the national convention. Both work farms with families, with substantial livestock and equipment investments.
Four H clubs in Sweet Grass County held an achievement day on Saturday November 6 with 64 members and leaders present. Porcupine Butte Riverside Badgers McLeod and others presented skits. members received seals and certificates for completed projects. pins and rings awarded for years of club work.
The JayCees discussed dental and X-ray exams for county children and planned to contact Dr. Livingston for materials. The group endorsed a 4-H committee report on exams, considered selling unused cement from the swimming pool site, and backed an I Speak for Democracy contest. New members include Elmer Satre Hilmar Cook Bill Ellison Arne Petaja Frank McElwain and John D Heurion.
Out-of-town relatives and friends joined services for Elmer Tucker on Saturday. Attendees included Clarence Tucker of Elliston Mrs. Chas Smith of Helena Mrs. Ralph Chamberlain of Columbus and Miss Evelyn Tucker of Laurel.
