His former secretary Helen Campbell was charged with him. The grand jury alleged fictitious employees were listed on the Thomas office payroll and paid monthly checks to them and to Campbell's relatives and household staff.

Mr and Mrs Elling Holland announce the marriage of their daughter Jennie to Kermit L Luttschwager son of Mr and Mrs L W Luttschwager of Valley City ND The ceremony was conducted by Rev E E Tollefson at the Lutheran church Sunday at 4 o clock Attendants were Adeline Holland and David Duffey The couple left for a trip through western Montana They will reside in Big Timber ND born from Sweet Grass county high school class of 48 and Sutton high school and he served 18 months in the SeaBees in Japan
Kay Bryan daughter of Mr and Mrs L H Bryan and Robert Hedges son of Mrs Roy Bruner wed at a Lutheran church ceremony conducted by Rev E E Tollefson at 8 o clock Saturday evening. Attendants were Mr and Mrs James Britenham and immediate family witnessed the vows. Sigrid Tollefson sang I Love You Truly and The Lord s Prayer. The bride wore an elephant grey taffeta dress with green accessories. groom wore a suit. They will reside in Big Timber where the groom works on a surveying crew.
Big Timber churches joined a World Community Day program Friday at the Lutheran church. A service opened with prayers and a musical trio, a slide show titled Delayed Pilgrims, and an afternoon talk by Mrs. Ben Olness on Peace Is My Responsibility covering brotherhood human rights civil rights and economic justice. Refreshments followed with pours by Mrs. P. N. Bennett and Mrs. E. F. Wines.

John Wesley Speck Hughes a Boulder area pioneer aged 72 died Saturday in an Idaho Falls hospital after a hip fracture from a fall. He homesteaded the Brownlee ranch and had lived in Idaho Falls since 1913 where he worked as a freighter for Yellowstone Park Co. He is survived by his widow Myrtle Drew Hughes. Funeral services set for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Buck Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Shipp officiating. Burial at Rose Hill cemetery.
Mrs Eleanor Roosevelt told an audience the Democratic party should drop southern conservatives and split parties into liberals and conservatives. She singled out Rep John Rankin and Sen Olin Johnston as among the worst reactionaries and urged denying them committee chairs. In Washington, J Howard McGrath said committee heads will be chosen by lawmakers with no national party reprisals.
Model Lorraine Caroll Conley, 19, could not obtain a divorce today as she is under 21 and lacks a legal guardian for the trial. Superior Judge Frank G. Swain marked the suit off the calendar and said it can be tried later. Miss Conley wed Broker Albert J. Conley Jr. in Mexico last June and they separated in August.
Mrs C V O Leary entertained the I L 8 club at her home on Wednesday afternoon. Bridge honors went to Mrs Agnes Ullman high and Mrs Sylvia Elgas second high. Mrs Mabel Smart was a club guest. The hostess served a dessert luncheon.
The Pioneer announces a ten part series by Ray E. Colton on the geologic past of Sweet Grass county and the Big Timber area. Colton, a petroleum geologist with seventeen years field experience, will cover local oil and gas history, marine and reptilian fossils, and regional structures with focus on Big Timber Gibson Glasston Springdale Grey Cliff Briley Melville Contact and Wheatland county prospects.
Public utilities commission representatives from 11 western states form a united front against a proposed 13 percent railroad freight rate rise. The Mountain-Pacific States Association of Public Regulatory Bodies backed a request for the ICC to hold a hearing in Salt Lake City. If approved, freight costs in the West could rise 63 percent since June 30, 1946.
A bright new comet, seen near Cambridge on November 9, outshines Venus and has astronomers in a hurry to chart its trajectory. First spotted in South Africa and later observed in Argentina, Mexico, and Australia, observers worldwide chase fresh data on its path.
Dr Hart E Van Riper, medical director of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, warned that the national polio epidemic could become the largest in history within two months. He noted 25 000 cases in 1916 as the previous high and that Los Angeles, while having the lowest polio death rate, remains the hardest hit area.

B A C Craig died October 7 1948 at Myrtle Hill Keymar Maryland from a heart attack. He served as a major in WWI at Vimy Ridge and later worked in mining corundum in eastern Ontario before a legal career. Funeral took place October in Falls Church Virginia with Rev. deBois and Rev. Yarnall officiating.
Two men Clarence Robarge from Provo Utah and Roy Sumter from Blackfoot Idaho were fined 50 each by U S Commissioner T Paul Wilcox at Mammoth Hot Springs for shooting two cow elk in the southwest corner of Yellowstone National Park. They admitted guilt and had their guns confiscated.
Local members including Dr. and Mrs. B Olness and several titled households attended the district American Legion and Auxiliary meetings in Livingston on Saturday. Mrs Baskett presided during the afternoon session and choir members sang after a brief trip. A 6:30 banquet followed for Legion and Auxiliary members. Cannery operations were halted Saturday night to address a frozen boiler and flooded premises as closure for the season neared. H H McIntyre and spouse returned from Minneapolis after Mrs McIntyre’s brother passed away there last week.
Patricia Webber daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Webber and Calvin Richard Hughes son of Mrs Rosie Clark wed in a double ring ceremony at the Webber home officiated by Reverend Bennett. The couple and wedding party posed under a living room arch as guests observed a three tier cake and reception for about 55. The groom a U S Army veteran plans to live west of Clyde Park where he works at the Phillips Kinnick sawmill.
Helena reports a strong open pheasant season with many birds seen in Montana but difficult to harvest. State fish and game officials urge hunters to return leg bands from state farm releases, noting under 3 percent were returned last year. The closing date for the regular stream fishing season is November 15, and sportsmen should submit fishermen logs.

In Boston on November 9 Rear Admiral James Fife cites navy maneuvers in the north Atlantic showing 200 Snorkel or Guppy submarines could sink the US merchant fleet. He notes eight such submarines delayed an invading group toward Argentia Nile. Fife adds a new anti submarine device could counter the Snorkels.
