The Sweet Grass County High School will hold open house for parents and the public on Thursday evening November 13 at 7 p.m. The event, part of American Education Week, invites all community members to tour facilities, meet staff, view student programs, and enjoy a coffee hour.
Parents and patrons are invited to visit Big Timber Elementary on Thursday and Friday, November 13 and 14, in observance of American Education Week. Do not knock. enter classrooms quietly. No school Tuesday, November 11 for Veteran's Day national holiday.
The Phi Iota Chapter presented an alumnae and collegiate recital on October 27 in Moorhead Minnesota. Pianist Linda Fellows performed Brahms Ballade in G minor and is a Concordia College junior pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree.
The morning session at Frye's Cafe featured Toastmaster Bob Meinrod introducing Andy Richert as Topicmaster and Ken Wilcox as speaker who presented A New Business for Big Timber. Ken's talk was evaluated by Tom Ellis. John Renneberg called for the nominations committee report and announced the upcoming officer election next Wednesday.
Secretary announces 1969 70 concert season tickets mailed to members. Next show set for Monday November 10 at Livingston Junior High School auditorium.
Reports to the sheriff describe thefts of a spare tire and motel items, larceny from a motel, a missing wallet, and keys at the post office. Investigations cover a drunken man, disruptive neighborhood children, unpermitted hunters, a cabin break-in, and vehicles or gear found abandoned or moved near town.
A sequence of accidents near Big Timber Montana to include Gary Chapel deer collision 14 miles north of town with over 100 damage none injured Patrolman Henthorn. Fredrick Bourgeois of Livingston east bound rolled over after a side road pullout with Mrs Bourgeois injured treated at hospital. two sons 15 and 18 not harmed Patrolman Henthorn. Paul Atkins of Billings jackknifed with minor damage no injuries. Gary Ward of Clyde Park semi cattle truck lost right dual wheels 7 miles east Big Timber no injuries, traffic managed by Patrolman Murdock. Friday Veterans Day concert at Sweet Grass County High School gym 8 pm with Band director Paul Nelson and Community Chorus as guests.
Stillwater County Development Organization hosts a public meeting at Columbus High School gym 8:00 to explain the proposed Wilderness Act. Oran Zaebst and Jack Hegenman speak for environmental and mining interests with a panel discussion and floor questions.
The Senior Citizens invite interested persons to a pot luck dinner on Monday November 10 at 1230 at the Dugout. The program features Montana with slides music and readings and plenty of good eats. Bring a friend and attend.
Two men, Bruce Alfred Rudd and James Oliver Whittington, released from Sweet Grass County jail after pleas on August 1 and August 6 respectively. Rudd, extradited from Carson, North Dakota, pleaded guilty to false use of a credit card and received a 30 month deferred sentence with two months jail time credited. Whittington, extradited from Portland, Oregon, pled guilty to uttering a fraudulent check and received three years with all but two months jail time suspended. restitution and $75 attorney fees were paid. Rudd was turned over to Hughes County, Pierre, South Dakota for burglary charges. Whittington was released to a Montana probation officer.
City council last Monday reviewed receipts disbursements and budget balances with clerk John Drivdahl. Four members met with Steve Johnson and Mac Clark to plan repairs to the fire hall while a color sketch and plan to repaint and widen the door were approved for study.
4 H members from Sweet Grass County received recognition for outstanding projects at the annual Recognition Program held November 1 at the Legion Hall. Medals and awards went to numerous members across categories including Agriculture, Dairy, Food Preservation, Leadership, and Woodworking with notes on seven, eight, nine, and ten year pin recipients and special honors for first year Jr Leadership members.
Lydia Yost received the Emerald Clover Pin and a corsage for 25 years leading the Porcupine Butte 4 H Club at the November 1 recognition program. Evelyn Woodhouse honored for 15 years. Silver Clover pins awarded to Helen Clark Barbara Cosgriff and John Green for five years. New leaders earning first year pins and certificates include Dolly Brekke Louitha Clayton Tom Ellis Selma Gibby Tom and Mrs Tom Hammersmark Helen Pedula Vern Rive l Burton Robinson and Genevieve Westervelt.
The Harry Toavs ranch home near Harlowton burned to the ground Saturday afternoon November 1. The entire house and its contents were consumed by flames. The Toavs family is well known in Sweet Grass County, especially among 4-H families due to active participation in Sweet Grass Wheatland 4-H activities.
Sweet Grass County American Red Cross Chapter purchases a life size Resusci Anni e for teaching mouth to mouth and chest compressions. It will be available to Scouts 4 H clubs schools and other organizations with donations funding 288 00 from Explorer Scout Troop 521 Montana Power Ray mond Hale for Northern Pacific Railroad. Displayed in Lowrys Insurance window.
The Yellowstone Victorians 4-H Club receives the Lions Club traveling plaque for the year after a presentation to club leader Mrs Roland Woodhouse and president Brit Gibby by Tom Ellis. A club may gain permanent possession by three consecutive wins. The scoring includes projects, meetings, attendance, goals, fair awards, achievement medals, activities, donations, community service, and health and safety programs.
A no host luncheon meeting is planned for next Tuesday at Fryes to assess feasibility of preserving Grey Cliff Prairie Dog Town as a tourist attraction. Readers celebrate the “Reports to the Sheriff’s Office” column and its wide readership. Senator Mansfield pushes Lincoln Back Country to Wilderness, raising Montana land and political questions amid praise for Big Timber and Crazy Mountains scenery.
